The Super Bowl is one of the most watched sporting events each and every year. And even though we are still months away from finding out which two teams will actually compete, the halftime show’s headliner has been announced. Over the past few weeks, rumors have surfaced around artists like NSYNC, Britney Spears, the Spice Girls, and others.
However, it was a surprising R&B legend who will get the nod this year.

“Usher is an icon whose music has left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape throughout his career, we couldn’t be more excited to have him headline this year’s Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show,” said Seth Dudowsky, NFL Head of Music. “We look forward to working with Usher, Roc Nation, and Apple Music to bring fans another Halftime Show for the history books.”
According to Billboard.com, this will be the fifth year that the NFL will partner with studio Roc Nation to produce the halftime show. That partnership has resulted in halftime shows by Shakira and Jennifer Lopez (2020), The Weeknd (2021), a hip-hop medley with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar (2022), and Rihanna (2023).
Usher Responds to Announcement
Usher’s list of accomplishments in music is quite impressive. He has 18 top 10 hits on the Hot 100 in his career, including nine No. 1s. He also has four No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200.
You might know him from hits like “Yeah!” feat Lil Jon and Ludacris, “My Boo” with Alicia Keys, and “OMG” feat. will.i.am.
When the news was announced, Usher released a short statement where he expressed his appreciation.
“It’s an honor of a lifetime to finally check a Super Bowl performance off my bucket list. I can’t wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they’ve seen from me before,” Usher said in a statement. “Thank you to the fans and everyone who made this opportunity happen. I’ll see you real soon.”
Where Is Super Bowl 58?
Next year’s Super Bowl already has a home. Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada, will get to host the big game. That means from February 2022 to February 2024, Las Vegas will have hosted two Pro Bowls, the NFL Draft, and now the Super Bowl.
Due to the COVID season, the league gave the game to Allegiant Stadium and pushed New Orleans hosting the Super Bowl back by a year.
