Sunday Night Football tonight features a NFC playoff battle with history. Who is playing, what time does the game start, and how can you watch?

Sunday Night Football tonight features an excellent NFC Wild Card matchup between two quarterbacks with a lot of history. It’s a win-or-go-home situation for these two NFL teams coming into the playoffs playing well.

Who Plays on Sunday Night Football Tonight?

The No. 3 seed Detroit Lions haven’t won a playoff game since 1994 and will look to do that at home against the No. 6 seed Los Angeles Rams. The storylines for this one are endless: Rams QB Matthew Stafford returns to the city that he has known and loved for most of his professional career.

Although Stafford and Co. were not able to win a playoff game during his tenure, the Lions were able to enjoy some modest success — Stafford was often the catalyst of that success.

This is a story Stafford knows is a big deal, but he doesn’t want the magnitude to change his preparation and doesn’t expect a big warm welcome back either.

“I’m not expecting anything, to be honest with you,” Stafford said. “I was asked this question a couple of times by friends and family. I think the biggest thing for me is just go experience whatever that experience is going to be. I understand what the people of Detroit and what the city of Detroit meant to me and my time and my career, what they meant to my family.

“I hope they feel that back. But at the same time, I’m not a stranger to the situation and understand that I’m the bad guy coming to town. I’m on the other team. They don’t want success for me. So whatever happens, happens. I’m going to go experience it, play the game. Once the ball is snapped, man, let’s go. Two good football teams go compete and see what happens.”

As for the Rams, this is an important full-circle moment for the other quarterback set to start on Sunday night as well. Jared Goff was traded from the Rams to the Lions, a move that was done to get Stafford to L.A. Goff will surely have vengeance on his mind as well.

Goff was cast aside for Stafford and was told he wasn’t the man for the job as he headed to Detroit to join a franchise that had a history of losing. Goff has a chance to exorcize a demon on Sunday night.
