Sunday Night Football tonight features two NFC teams fighting for their playoff lives. Both teams need a win, and with a loss, one of the two is essentially going to see their season come to an end in Week 17.

As the regular season winds down, every game begins to hold more meaning, especially for teams looking to secure seeding in a tightly contested NFC playoff battle. What time does the NFL game start tonight, and how can you watch it?

Who Plays on Sunday Night Football Tonight?

Week 17 gives us a matchup that features two NFC North teams on their last leg as it pertains to making it to the playoffs. The 8-7 Green Bay Packers are set to take on their division-rival Minnesota Vikings, who also come into the game 8-7.

Jordan Love and the Packers have had a chance over the last month to separate themselves from the playoff field, but they haven’t been able to do so. As a result, every game already feels like a playoff game for Green Bay, which is something Packers’ linebacker Quay Walker completely understands.

“This is pretty much a playoff game,” Walker said this week. “Not only that, this is a rival, and both teams are trying to get in a position where we want to be at the end of the year. It’d be a big win.”

As for the Vikings, they’ve struggled to find traction at the quarterback position since losing starter Kirk Cousins earlier in the season. Minnesota enters Week 17 making another QB change with Jaren Hall set to make his second career start in the prime-time matchup.

Much like the Packers, the Vikings also know that this will be a playoff game. Head coach Kevin O’Connell is unafraid of acknowledging that.

“Our guys kind of have a playoff mindset toward this game,” O’Connell said. “We know both teams feel like we’ve still got a lot to play for, and it’s going to be very competitive, as is any game in December in the NFC North. I feel like where our team is at right now, we’ve got a great mindset toward what we need to go do to win football games.

“We’ve learned a lot of lessons this year on what that’s going to take to win the football game, especially against a team that’s playing some really good football right now.”

With both teams understanding what’s at stake, Sunday Night Football tonight promises to be filled with drama and hard-hitting action that NFL fans will love to watch as they send off 2023.
