‘It’s Like Fire in Me Because I Love Those Moments’ – CB Stephon Gilmore Reflects on His Best Game in Dallas

Twelve-year veteran Stephon Gilmore is finding his stride in Dallas and had his best game yet with the Cowboys in Sunday's win over the Eagles.

The Dallas Cowboys are now 10-3 after beating the Philadelphia Eagles 33-13. A large part of that win on Sunday night was because of the level CB Stephon Gilmore was playing at.

Gilmore is a 12-year veteran who has played for several teams but is finding his stride to look like a vintage version of himself again. After the win, he received one of the game balls. Then, during the post-game interview on NBC, Gilmore said he shines the brightest in big moments.

Gilmore led the team in tackles on Sunday, with nine total, making it his best game with the Cowboys yet.

But the highlight was the veteran cornerback’s first forced fumble of the season in the third quarter against Eagles’ wide receiver A.J. Brown.

“I’ve been doing this my whole career. Covering the best guy… you’re fighting because you know the ball is coming your way, and I get up for those type of moments,” said Gilmore after the Cowboys’ win.

Dallas had three forced fumbles in the game, which Gilmore says was an emphasis from Dan Quinn this week.

Obviously, he doesn’t want it to stop there and wants to continue forcing turnovers every week.

Gilmore stated, “It’s like fire in me because I love those moments going against other great guys on the other side of the ball.”

Some jawing went on between Gilmore and Brown as the 26-year-old receiver called Gilmore old.

“I was mad,” said Gilmore, adding, “I was going to show him. That’s the only thing I could do. I’m still here, and I think I did that today.”

As a reminder, Gilmore is 33 years old, making his skill set even more impressive. He’s been nothing short of impressive to his teammates and the coaches around him.

After the game, head coach Mike McCarthy called the veteran DB a smart player.

“Just the way he attacks the ball. He’s been doing it forever in this league, and he’s got such a gift, the whole package of reading the routes, playing to leverage. So obviously, two huge plays for us,” said McCarthy.
