The Dallas Cowboys had a disastrous 2024 season. After three consecutive 12-5 seasons, the Cowboys had a 7-10 record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. As a result, owner Jerry Jones and the Cowboys announced that they would be parting ways with head coach Mike McCarthy. Media personality Stephen A. Smith believes Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is the perfect person to help the Cowboys get their juju back.
Stephen A. Smith Believes Deion Sanders Can Help the Dallas Cowboys Get Back on Track
Sanders does not have coaching experience at the NFL level. His only experience is with Colorado, where he has helped turn the program around.
Smith talked on “First Take” on Wednesday about why he thinks Sanders is the perfect person to help the Cowboys get back on track.
Smith: “I think the ceiling would be possibly an NFC Championship Game, assuming everyone is healthy of course. But I don’t think it’s really about that. It’s about the Dallas Cowboys giving you a sense that they’re moving in a forward direction. I know we’ve looked at the Dallas Cowboys and back-to-back-to0back 12-5 seasons before they nosedived 7-10 this year, primarily due to injuries.
“But over the course of the years, even en route to a 12-5 record, there was a lot of chaos because we saw disorganization at times. We saw a lot of people not prioritizing when they should prioritize. We saw Jerry Jones in front of the cameras and all of that other stuff. We found ourselves waiting for that black cat to come around because we knew that’s what happens to this franchise.
“That’s why I was the first to come out talking about Deion Sanders. His personality when he walks into any football locker room, the greatest cornerback this world has ever seen. There are very few people who had Prime Time’s panache on the field, but it was equal off the field. The only person I brought up that was more viable than Prime Time was Bill Belichick.”

While Smith would like the Cowboys to hire Sanders, he might not be interested.
Sanders has stated publically several times that he is happy in Colorado. If he means that, the Cowboys would likely need to give him a lucrative offer to lure him away from the Buffaloes.
