Former NFL Player Explains Why Stefon Diggs Wanted Out of Buffalo – “He Didn’t Think They Could Beat the Chiefs”

Yesterday’s big news in the NFL was the Houston Texans making a big trade to acquire Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills. The Texans are sending a second-round pick to Buffalo for Diggs, a 2024 sixth-round pick, and a 2025 fifth-round pick.

This trade has been the primary topic of sports talk shows all day, and former NFL wide receiver DeSean Jackson had some interesting comments on a TV appearance on Thursday afternoon.

DeSean Jackson Said Lack of Faith in Team’s Chances Played a Role in Stefon Diggs Leaving Buffalo

Jackson was on the Up and Adams Show today with host Kay Adams when they were talking about Diggs leaving for Buffalo.

When asked why he thought Diggs wanted to leave Buffalo, Jackson said he thought a big reason was the fact the team couldn’t beat Kansas City.

“I don’t know for sure, but I think it was more of him wanting to win,” Jackson said. “I don’t feel like he thought they were going to be able to beat the Chiefs. The AFC conference is the Chiefs, and I think he would rather go with the young quarterback and a new team that is thriving rather than stay with the Bills who, every year, get beat by the Chiefs.”

Are the Houston Texans in Better Shape To Contend With the Kansas City Chiefs?

Jackson saying Diggs would want to go to the young, up-and-coming team would make a lot of sense. No team has done a better job the past two offseasons of taking their franchise in the right direction than the Texans.

Last year, it started with the team taking C.J. Stroud with the No. 2 pick in the 2023 NFL draft. He had a sensational rookie season and looks like he will be an MVP contender for the next decade. Not only did they take Stroud, but they traded up and took defensive end Will Anderson with the third pick last year.

Both of those guys have proven they are capable of being franchise cornerstones, and it helped take the team to the playoffs last year.

This offseason, the team made more big-time moves, signing All-Pro defensive end Danielle Hunter in free agency. To have any chance of beating the Chiefs, you have to have defensive ends who can get pressure on their own without blitzing. The Texans can do just that, and this team is now ready to make a move to true Super Bowl contender.

While Texans Are Climbing, the Buffalo Bills Could Be in for a Rebuild

The Bills started to show a change in their philosophy once Joe Brady became the offensive coordinator. The team went 7-2 down the stretch and put an added emphasis on running the ball.

In weeks 1-8, he had 64 catches with five games over 100 yards and six touchdowns. In the last nine games, he had 43 catches and two touchdowns, with the most yards in a game being 87. The team went 7-2 during that stretch, and his frustrations started to boil over.

He has had issues on the sidelines where he is frustrated about not getting the ball, and the Bills making this move shows they were done with Diggs. The team is in a tough spot financially, as this trade doesn’t even help them clear up cap space.

It was a good run for Diggs in Buffalo, but this feels like a move the Bills made knowing they are in the middle of a rebuild.
