Pittsburgh Steelers fans were giddy with delight when reports surfaced that the Steelers were considering trading for Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
But to quote Lee Corso, “Not so fast, my friend.” Those reports of Lawrence to the Steelers were a bit premature.

Jaguars Not Trading Trevor Lawrence
Early reports indicated that the Steelers had contacted the Jags about a possible trade for the star quarterback, which Jaguars and Steelers beat reporters are now shooting down.
ESPN’s Michael DiRocco cleared up those rumors on X.
“Regarding recent report that Steelers have inquired about a trade for Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence, a Jaguars source said there’s ‘no chance’ they’ll trade Lawrence and called the idea ‘ridiculous.'”

Steelers beat writer Mark Kaboly confirmed DiRocco’s report.
“The Steelers in no way imaginable inquired about trading for Trevor Lawrence and have no interest in even reaching out to the Jaguars about acquiring Lawrence, according to a source.”

The rumor of Lawrence being traded to the Steelers started with reporter Ryan Burr of the Big Ten Network.
Burr reported on Feb. 13 a source within the Jaguars organization told him that the Steelers have been asking about Lawrence, and even reported that the team would consider trading this year’s first and second-round draft picks for the former No. 1 selection out of Clemson.
Lawrence signed a five-year, $275 million contract extension in 2024 that has $200 million in guaranteed money. Had the Steelers decided to trade for Lawrence, they would have had to eat his current contract.
Lawrence’s Struggles of Late
Last year was one of Lawrence’s worst years as a pro. Before he was injured and out for the rest of the season, he ranked 31st in the PFN’s QB+ metric with a D. He threw for over 2,000 yards and just 11 touchdowns with seven interceptions.
The Jaguars have made it clear that Lawrence is in their future plans. They have no plans to trade him and plan to rebuild their team around him.
New Jaguars head coach Liam Coen made that perfectly clear in his opening press conference, as did Jaguars owner Shahid Khan.
“Our committement is to Trevor, I think is well-known,” he said. “We believe in him.”
The Steelers, meanwhile, still have to decide whether to stick with veterans Russell Wilson and Justin Fields or go into this year’s draft and find a new quarterback. Whatever their decision, Lawrence won’t be part of their quarterback picture.
