Who Are the Steelers-Bills Announcers Today on CBS? Everything You Need To Know About the Broadcast

    Published on

Who is in the broadcast booth for CBS's AFC playoff game between the Steelers and Bills? Who is the new addition to CBS's main crew for the game?

The Buffalo Bills host the Pittsburgh Steelers in an AFC Wild Card in a postponed matchup on Monday afternoon. Three weeks ago, it seemed unlikely that the Steelers and Bills would both make the playoffs. Both teams clinched a spot when the Jacksonville Jaguars lost last Sunday.

The Steelers won the last three games after opening December with a three-game losing streak. The Bills needed a five-game win streak to win the AFC East for the fourth straight season.

Today’s Steelers-Bills kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET on CBS.

Who Are the Game Announcers for Steelers-Bills?

The lead CBS crew of Jim Nantz, Tony Romo, and Tracy Wolfson will call the game. Jay Feely, who served as a game analyst during the season, will be their second sideline reporter and provide kicking analysis.

Nantz has been the lead play-by-play announcer for the NFL on CBS since 2004, after being the network’s NFL studio host for six seasons. Last spring, Nantz called his final NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament after being the lead announcer for March Madness since 1991.

He has also been the host of the Masters since 1988 and will continue to call the legendary tournament next year. Nantz started at CBS as the studio host for college football from 1985 to 1988.

Romo has been the CBS lead game analyst since joining the network in 2017 after he retired from the NFL. He spent 14 seasons as a quarterback with the Cowboys. Romo, Nantz, and Wolfson have called two Super Bowls together and will call another one next February in Las Vegas.

Wolfson has been the sideline reporter for the main CBS broadcast team since the 2014 season. Before taking on the role, she was on the sidelines for the CBS SEC Game of the Week for 10 years. Wolfson has been the lead sideline reporter for the Final Four since the 2008 season.

Feely joined CBS to cover college football in 2014 after playing in the NFL for 14 years as a kicker. He started covering NFL playoff games for CBS as the kicking analyst the next season and moved to game analyst in 2016.

Feely made 82.6% of his career field goal attempts, and he kicked a career-high 61-yarder in 2012.

He played with the Arizona Cardinals, New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, New York Giants, Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears, and New York Giants.

    Tony Romo’s Playoff Career

Romo led the Cowboys to the playoffs four times during his career but only had a 2-4 postseason record as a starting quarterback. Romo completed 61.6% of his passes with eight touchdowns and two interceptions in six career playoff games.

Romo’s first playoff appearance ended in a terrible way against the Seattle Seahawks in a 2006 NFC Wild Card game. With the Cowboys trailing by one, he led the offense down the field for what appeared to be a 20-yard go-ahead field goal attempt in the final 90 seconds. Romo, who was the holder, dropped the snap and was tackled in his attempt to get at least a yard for a first down.

The next season, Dallas finished the regular season with a 13-3 record and had home-field advantage through the NFC playoffs. In the Divisional Round, Romo completed 18 of 36 passes for 201 yards with one touchdown and one late interception deep in the New York Giants’ territory, ending the Cowboys’ hopes. The Giants went on to defeat the undefeated New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII.

Romo did win Wild Card games against the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009 and the Detroit Lions in 2014. After the Lions win, Dallas played at the Green Bay Packers with a trip to the NFC Championship Game on the line.

Down five late in the fourth quarter, Romo’s fourth-down pass to Dez Bryant was initially ruled a catch inside the Packers 2-yard line, but replay reversed the call to an incomplete pass. That was the final postseason pass of Romo’s career.
