Once upon a time, Spencer Rattler was one of the most exciting quarterback prospects in college football. He was a coveted five-star recruit coming out of high school, and his collegiate career got off to a great start in Oklahoma before losing his job to Caleb Williams and ultimately transferring to South Carolina.
After reviving his draft stock a bit during his final collegiate year as a member of the Gamecocks, what teams would be an ideal landing spot for Rattler in the 2024 NFL Draft?
Which Teams Could Draft Spencer Rattler?
New York Giants
The New York Giants may not be an ideal landing spot due to the current amount of offensive talent on the roster. Still, if we’re trying to project somewhere that Rattler could eventually become an NFL starter, then the G-Men are certainly a possibility.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll did wonders for resurrecting the career of quarterback Daniel Jones in 2022 with a pretty pedestrian collection of wide receivers. Rattler has flashed the ability to play at a high level in college and may need the right offensive mind to unlock his true potential.
Sure, the receiving corps of Jalin Hyatt, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Darius Slayton needs to be addressed. However, Rattler likely wouldn’t be expected to play a single snap this upcoming season, allowing allow him to learn behind Jones as a rookie.
New York Jets
The New York Jets may be a little hesitant to spend a Day 2 pick on a quarterback, with Aaron Rodgers having a one or two-year window to potentially make some noise in the AFC. Despite this, Rattler would certainly give the franchise a contingency plan to develop when Rodgers decides to hang it up.
We saw what was behind Rodgers for all but four snaps of the 2023 NFL season, which left much to be desired, to put it very gently. Rattler flashes the ability to operate the quick game and get through progressions but hasn’t been able to capture the consistency of his best moments.
The Jets could use an extra playmaker outside of Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall, which the team could address in the draft to further cater to Rodgers. Ultimately, the Jets’ situation with an established starter would allow Rattler to focus on developing and learning the system in his first season.
Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos are in the market for a quarterback entering the 2024 NFL Draft and could choose to address the position with the 12th pick. If Denver decides to pass on a signal-caller in the first round, then the team will turn its attention to a handful of Day 2 prospects.
Rattler is an intriguing prospect for Sean Payton in Round 3 at 76 overall. He’s flashed the ability to get through full-field reads and has solid throwing mechanics. Still, his inconsistencies in playing on time and exploiting the middle of the field could be problematic for an offense that demands those traits.

The offensive line is a solid unit, but the Broncos lack a group of talented pass catchers outside of Courtland Sutton and Marvin Mims Jr. Nonetheless, Rattler’s flashes of high-level quarterback play could thrive if Payton can unlock his full potential.
