NFL scouts traveled to Southern after attending the LSU Pro Day to take a closer look at Carter, with New Orleans Saints offensive line coach Doug Marrone running the drills. Besides the Saints, the Texans, Jets, and Patriots sent more than one staffer to scout the Southern Pro Day that was headlined by Carter.
The offensive tackle ran the 40-yard dash in 5.02 and 5.04 seconds at 6-foot-3, 312 pounds. He had an eye-catching 34.5-inch vertical leap and a 9’3″ broad jump. Additionally, Carter posted 21 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. He improved upon his NFL Scouting Combine numbers, having registered 5.13 and 5.16 40 times in Indianapolis.
The Atlanta Falcons and other NFL teams are scheduled to meet with Carter at Southern, according to league sources. A Senior Bowl participant, Carter has the capability to play tackle or guard at the next level. Carter didn’t allow a sack last season.
Southern rushed for 203 yards per game, and he was named to the All-SWAC team. Prior to the Senior Bowl, Carter was also selected to the East-West Shrine Bowl.
In high school, Carter played tight end while also leading White Castle to a Louisiana championship on the basketball court.
