To call Skyy Moore’s dynasty value stuck in reverse simply isn’t doing it justice. He is in the middle of his rookie deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, but the 54th-overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft has yet to carve out a role that requires him to be rostered in fantasy football leagues.
Do the reigning Super Bowl champions find a way to unlock the once highly touted prospect, or is he better off left on fantasy waiver wires, even in leagues that reward you for playing the long game?
Skyy Moore’s Dynasty Outlook
Through 30 games, Moore has given us just 43 catches and 71 targets. We learned this season that if a young receiver gives Patrick Mahomes a reason to trust him, Mahomes will deliver on that trust.
Rashee Rice didn’t have a 60-yard game through five weeks, but by showing glimpses of potential, his usage rose throughout the season. Over the final seven weeks of the season, he was the eighth-best half-PPR receiver on a per-game basis in the NFL.
The fact that Moore has been on this roster for two seasons and the team hasn’t felt the need to ramp up his role is more than concerning — it’s dooming.

The Chiefs just won a Super Bowl with only one receiver clearing 500 receiving yards and have the cap space to potentially add help at the position this summer. What exactly is their motivation to give Moore another chance to prove his value? And even if they do, what does that role look like?
Moore is an undersized receiver, and those underneath/YAC routes are where Rice excels. Travis Kelce made it clear that he will be back for at least another season, and Isiah Pacheco developed in a significant way as a pass catcher in 2023. Moore’s path to any sort of consistent volume simply isn’t there.

Moore might return more than you think in a trade. That’s not a high bar to clear, but many rebuilding teams like investing in depressed assets with pedigree, and Moore certainly has that combo (turns 24 years old in September).
If you’re going to make a deal like this to get any sort of win-now help, I’d pull the trigger now before the defending champs have a chance to add talent at the position. If you, like me, view Moore as close to a lost cause, remember that almost any player who has a path to helping you win in 2024 is worth your time.
The list of trade options includes handcuff running backs (either for your RBs or others) or receivers like Tyler Boyd who aren’t overly exciting but could help in a pinch. In the Boyd case, if he’s sitting on a roster of a team that has its eyes set on the future, there might be a path to getting a deal done.
What do we learn from Moore to avoid future mistakes when drafting?
Betting on historical outliers is difficult (receivers under six feet tall and/or 200 pounds), and betting on unknown roles is wiser at the running back position than the receiver position. This Kansas City team may be lacking high-end WR talent next to Rice, but with Justin Watson, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney, and Mecole Hardman all on this roster, the path to failure for most of them was reasonably clear.
I prefer to embrace chaotic depth charts at RB because when your player hits, he hits big.

A lead running back steps into a voluminous role that immediately makes him viable, whereas secondary receivers can struggle to produce, even if they win that role. The 2023 Chiefs are a prime example, and the Green Bay Packers in the final few seasons of the Aaron Rodgers era are another as they tried to make Allen Lazard and Valdes-Scantling work.
When drafting rookies, swing big. The idea behind Moore wasn’t bad — a player in whom the franchise invested draft capital to pair with an all-time quarterback. But the outcome was. Fantasy managers are no different than NFL managers here: the hit rate for rookies just isn’t that high. Keep taking swings at young receivers. That’s the proper way to build up a future dynasty!
