NFL World Reacts to Skyrocketing Ticket Prices for Matthew Stafford Making Return to Detroit

    Published on

The Rams and Lions have an intriguing battle ahead of Super Wild Card Weekend. But is it the most expensive game to purchase for tickets?

Fans who want to take in the return of Matthew Stafford in Detroit will have to make sure there’s plenty in their checking or savings account to make it happen.

The much-anticipated return of the former Detroit Lions star quarterback to Ford Field ahead of the NFL playoffs will come with a hefty price — even if there are fans seeking the cheapest seats.

Cost of Least Expensive Rams-Lions Tickets Revealed

Unveiled by sports business reporter Darrell Rovell on Monday morning, the least expensive ticket for the Los Angeles Rams-Lions opening-round battle via Tick Pick is $552.

And that price is actually the second-cheapest ticket, as non-standing-room-only tickets for the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys game are $336.

The price tag for the Rams-Lions already ruled out one fan.

“Ugh I want to go so badly. Priced out of my budget though, sad but at least we made it to the playoffs!” the Lions fan posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Yet, despite the high dollar value, the Rams and the Lions have the least amount of available tickets according to a graphic posted by Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times, which indicates less than 2,000 available tickets are left.

Despite the price, a former Lion exuberantly posted that he’s officially booked and ready to go for Sunday night: Glover Quin.

“I’m booked! Detroit we turning up Sunday night in Ford Field!!!” Quin shared on X.

However, one fan opted to sell their tickets and negotiated a $400 price for each of the four.

Reasons for the Intrigue Behind Rams/Lions Involves More Than Stafford

Again, Sunday night will mark Stafford’s first appearance inside Ford Field since the blockbuster January 2021 trade that saw him and Jared Goff swap teams.

Since then, both QBs have spearheaded 2023 playoff teams. Additionally, Stafford won the Super Bowl in his first season with the Rams in 2021.

But Goff becomes another high-intrigue angle ahead of this primetime playoff battle.

Goff once led the Rams to the Super Bowl in the 2018 season before his relationship between himself and the franchise began to deteriorate. Goff and members of the Rams even admitted they were shocked to hear about the team trading him at the time it happened.

His former head coach, Sean McVay, conceded he regretted not being more forthcoming to Goff about the deal and how the move swiftly happened.

The Rams ended up winning their last meeting against the Lions during the 2021 season at SoFi Stadium, which saw McVay trying to give some encouraging words to Goff after the game. But this time, Goff is leading the home team out — and for a historic moment.

The Lions secured their first divisional crown since the 1993 season. That was also the last time Detroit hosted a home playoff game. A sold-out crowd is imminent despite the wild cost of tickets.

It also helps that Lions fans can watch Stafford on his past home turf again — also the same field where he became a Pro Bowler and 4,000-5,000-yard passer. Even Stafford’s verbose wife Kelly is energized about the return “home.”

“Time for postseason and to head back to where it all started,” Kelly Stafford said on her Instagram page.

Goff, meanwhile, didn’t take long to react to the Lions’ next challenge.

“I think we’re ready, man,” Goff said after the Lions’ win over the Vikings with reporters. “I think Dan [Campbell] said it best at the end there like no one’s been through the kind of adversity this group has been through the last couple of years. We’re ready. Yeah, we’re ready. It feels like we’ve been waiting for quite some time to get these opportunities and they’re here now. Ford Field will be rocking, and it’ll be fun.”
