Shedeur Sanders Sends Bold Message to NFL Front Offices About Travis Hunter’s Position in the Pros

Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders made a bold prediction about Travis Hunter playing both sides of the ball in the NFL.

While neither is competing in drills at the NFL Scouting Combine, both Colorado stars have made headlines for their appearances at the podium as they prepare for the 2025 NFL Draft.

Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders said that his Heisman Trophy-winning teammate Travis Hunter would be able to play both sides of the ball in the NFL.

Shedeur Sanders Sends Bold Warning to the NFL About Travis Hunter

Since high school, Hunter has been one of the most talked about players in football on any level. This is primarily due to his ability to play both sides of the ball at an elite level, making him one of the best recruits of all time.

That said, a lot of people were skeptical about his ability to continue to play both sides in college, especially when he transferred to a Power Five (now Four) school. Fortunately for Hunter, he more than succeeded at playing both sides.

Hunter is widely viewed as one of the best players at both positions — wide receiver and cornerback — which made his argument for the Heisman award nearly undeniable. Even so, now that he’s entering the NFL which is a completely different level of competition, analysts are once again questioning his ability to play both sides.

The Colorado quarterback was asked about this ahead of the NFL Combine and gave quite the answer, saying, “Both Sides. This is what I don’t understand. If me and Trav showed we could do it place after place after place, what changed?”

“People said from Jackson State even going to Power Five that he wouldn’t be able to do that and I wasn’t going to succeed,” Sanders said. “But now we’ve exceeded expectations.”

Despite being among the best players in college football, this claim is extremely bold. Success on any level in the NFL is extremely difficult, let alone on both sides of the ball. More than anything, this comes down to the amount of energy that it takes to play at the professional level.

While this didn’t have much of an impact on Hunter in college, the talent in the NFL is too high to have a tired cornerback trying to help lead a defense. It’s certainly possible he takes a couple snaps on either side in some games, but he can’t be expected to be a full-time starter at both positions.

Regardless, you have to respect Sanders not just defending his teammate but instilling his full confidence in his ability to continue dominating at the next level. Sanders would deserve a lot of credit if Hunter does end up seeing any success playing both sides.
