‘Tom Brady Didn’t Go 1st’ — Shedeur Sanders Pulls GOAT Reference During His 2025 NFL Combine Presser

Shedeur Sanders made a reference to Tom Brady while speaking to the reporters at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine ahead of the NFL Draft.

Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders is in Indianapolis to attend the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine. He won’t participate in the drills or workouts but will focus more on the team meetings and interviews with NFL franchise personnel.

On Friday, Feb. 28, the 23-year-old had a brief interaction with a couple of teams and shared his experience with reporters. He raised eyebrows with powerful remarks about transforming the franchise and making an impact, just like what he and his dad, Coach Prime, did in college.

Shedeur Sanders Pulls Out a Tom Brady Reference

The quarterback has been projected to be one of the top picks, but lately his draft stock seems to have plummeted in the public consensus, with some experts predicting him to drop beyond the top five. Speaking to the reporters, he mentioned that the specific picks and numbers are insignificant and what matters the most is the impact that he creates.

“If you ain’t trying to change the franchise or the culture, don’t get me,” Sanders said. “So you should know, history repeats itself over and over and over, and I’ve done it over and over and over. So, it should be no question why an NFL franchise should pick me.”

Sanders continued, discussing his potential no matter where or when he gets drafted.

“The number where you go don’t matter,” Sanders said. “Like I say, it’s our reference, Tom Brady, because he was the best of the best in all categories. He didn’t go first. So the number — the number getting picked don’t matter.”

“I wasn’t the top-rated quarterback coming out of high school because there’s a lot of exterior things that people like and don’t like about me. And I’m realistic, you know, and I’m realistic about my family and everything that people say it comes with,” Sanders said.

Sanders went further, discussing how he approaches the game given all the outside noise both he and his family generate. “It’s extremely important to keep your mental in the best place, because that’s where my game is played.”

“My game is not played from my legs and not even just my arm. So I know the longevity of the all-time greats — what’s Tom Brady’s best trait? His mental,” Sanders said. “He’s able to think. So if you have those traits of greatness, and I know where I’m headed, then why wouldn’t a franchise pick me: the ultimate cheat code?”

Expectations are quite high for Sanders heading into the league. Wherever he goes, the quarterback could start for the franchise, thereby building a foundation for the team’s success.
