Shedeur Sanders and Deion Sanders Jr. Echo Same Name for ‘Best’ Quarterback in College Football Outside Colorado

Shedeur and Deion Sanders Jr. believe Miami Hurricanes QB Cam Ward has been the best non-Buffaloes quarterback in college football.

On Tuesday, Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Deion Sanders Jr. released a new episode of the popular podcast “2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders.” In a question portion of the episode, Shedeur raised the question as to who was the best quarterback in college football, not on the Buffaloes roster.

In response to the question, both individuals simultaneously said that their choice was Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward. Though they did not outline why they thought this way, it does highlight the respect and admiration Ward has around college football and potentially the NFL.

What Did Shedeur Sanders and Deion Sanders Jr. Say About Cam Ward?

“Cam Ward,” Deion Jr. stated in response to the question.

“Yeah, of course, Cam,” Shedeur added.

Even though the sons of Coach Prime don’t have a say in Ward’s draft prospect or his NFL future, their endorsement publicly highlights the impressive season Ward has had for the Hurricanes this year.

Is Cam Ward the Best Non-Buffaloes QB in College Football?

Ward is, in fact, having a standout campaign and has been one of, if not the best, quarterbacks in college football this year. He currently ranks second in passing yards (4,123), first in passing touchdowns (36), and first in adjusted QB rating (88.0) among all qualified college quarterbacks this season.

In Pro Football Network Derek Tate’s recent 2025 NFL Mock Draft, Ward was projected to be the second quarterback taken off the board and selected No. 3 overall, only behind Shedeur Sanders and Michigan Wolverines CB Will Johnson.

As Tate notes, “Speaking of excitement, it’s hard not to see a potential franchise quarterback when you come across Miami QB Cam Ward. Some of the throws he makes defy physics. The velocity and compact release make for some truly special reps that can get any fan excited.”

Though it remains to be seen when or where Ward is drafted come next season’s draft, Coach Prime’s sons’ assessment of the Hurricanes’ QB is defended by his remarkable statistics this year.

As is clear, Ward’s impressive campaign hasn’t gone unnoticed and has sparked further debate as to where he should be selected and the potential impact he can make at the professional level.
