NFL rookies might have the toughest task of any rookies in any sport because they are asked to do all sorts of things for the team’s veterans, including pay for a team meal.
Seattle Seahawks rookie defensive lineman Byron Murphy II learned that lesson when he got slapped with a supposed $155,000 dinner bill from the veterans on the team.
Byron Murphy II Trolled With $155,000 Dinner Bill
A video of Murphy looking at the bill went viral and from the looks of it, he wasn’t expecting that grand total of $155,000.
According to Bleacher Report, the defensive tackle had to pay a $38,000 dinner tab for his teammates, though the restaurant and his teammates first tricked him into thinking that he owed $155,000 for the meal. In a video of Murphy getting the check, he was shocked by what he thought would be a hefty bill.
Still, $38,000 is a lot, but at least it’s not the $155,000 he thought he’d have to pay, but the reaction from Murphy was priceless and hilarious. You can hear his teammates howling in the background claiming the ticket was right.

Other Rookie Pranks Pulled on the 2024 NFL Draft Class
In 2024, according to SB Nation, the NFL released a video of them getting on the rookie prank action, fooling the Year 1 players in various ways, and they were equally as funny.
- Xavier Legette of the Carolina Panthers was told he was filming a video about his skin care regimen
- Caleb Williams of the Chicago Bears thought he was filming an “outfit of the day” video
- Ladd McConkey of the Los Angeles Chargers believed he was doing the “breathe out and yell challenge”
- J.J. McCarthy of the Minnesota Vikings thought he was being asked to sing “Happy Birthday” to an NFL employee
- Ricky Pearsall of the San Francisco 49ers was convinced he was asked about his hair care routine
- Ja’Tavion Sanders of the Carolina Panthers thought he was competing in a dinosaur noise competition
Hazing NFL rookies has always been a thing in a league that is not known for its sense of humor, but every year there are always videos released of rookies carrying veteran’s bags, or getting their heads shaved before the season starts.
However, maybe the funniest pranks are when the rookies are asked to sing to the vets during training camp. It seems in this case, Murphy may have gotten off lightly (embarassment-wise) compared to other rookies around the league.
