The Seattle Seahawks made major moves this offseason, parting ways with their offensive coordinator, two wide receivers, and their starting quarterback.
Out are offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, wide receiver DK Metcalf, wide receiver Tyler Lockett, and quarterback Geno Smith. They replaced Grubb with Klint Kubiak, who was previously with the New Orleans Saints, while signing WR Cooper Kupp and QB Sam Darnold.
That said, the Seahawks are still expected to add to their wide receiver room in the draft, according to a recent mock.
Seahawks Select Emeka Egbuka in New NFL Mock Draft
Even with the addition of Cooper Kupp, the Seahawks are still looking to add talent at wide receiver. A new mock draft from PFSN has them doing just that with the selection of Ohio State’s Emeka Egbuka.
Here’s the breakdown of the pick:
“On the opposite end of the spectrum from the Bengals, the Seattle Seahawks lost wide receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. This leaves the young Jaxon Smith-Njigba and veteran Cooper Kupp to steady a new-look offense. Adding a final weapon for former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold could help maximize the free-agent addition.”
In this mock, Egbuka is the second receiver off the board, with the Las Vegas Raiders selecting Tetairoa McMillan at No. 6 overall.
At the top of the draft, quarterbacks Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders go No. 2 and No. 3 overall to the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants, respectively. Meanwhile, Jaxson Dart from Ole Miss is available at Seattle’s pick but ends up going to the Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 21.
If the Seahawks take a liking to Dart, they could consider a quarterback. However, with the draft still over a month away, there has been no indication that Seattle is looking to add a QB in the first round. That makes Egbuka a strong pick to further bolster their receiving corps.
The young duo of Egbuka and Smith-Njigba, along with the veteran presence of Kupp, would give Seattle a solid trio of receivers.
Seahawks Still Need to Address Offensive Line
One lingering issue for the Seahawks is their offensive line. So far, their only notable move to address the problem has been trading for Josh Jones from the Texans.
There’s still time this offseason to make additional improvements. But for now, drafting a promising wide receiver prospect like Egbuka would at least ensure that Darnold has a strong group of weapons in his first year as Seattle’s starting quarterback.
