Seattle Seahawks Offense
After a breakout 2022 season, QB Geno Smith was rewarded with a three-year contract extension. In the draft, the Seahawks made a big addition to their passing game with first-round pick Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Pairing JSN with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett might give this team the best wide receiver trio in the NFL and could potentially unlock Smith even more this upcoming season.
Another addition they made to their offense in the draft was RB Zach Charbonnet, who was selected in the second round out of UCLA. Charbonnet gives the Seahawks even more depth in their backfield after RB Kenneth Walker rushed for over 1,000 yards as a rookie.
Seattle Seahawks Defense
This was the major weakness of the Seahawks a year ago, as they were 26th in yards allowed per game and 30th in defending the run. One bright spot for this unit was their pass defense, ranking 13th in yards allowed per game.
They’ll have some reinforcements in the secondary as well, with rookie CB Devon Witherspoon, who they drafted fifth overall, and safety Jamal Adams, who missed almost all of last season with an injury. Longtime Seahawks LB Bobby Wagner also rejoined the team this offseason after a one-year stint with the Los Angeles Rams.
One Betting Trend To Know
The Seahawks covered in just one of six games as a favorite last season, the fifth-worst rate for favorites in the NFL, according to Inside Edge.
Best Bet for the Seahawks in 2023
Blewis: This Seahawks team is too talented not to make the playoffs in the top-heavy NFC, in my opinion. I’m having a difficult time finding any NFC team I definitively like more besides the Eagles, 49ers, and Cowboys.
As much recognition as he got for his 2022 season, Geno Smith still might be a bit underrated. Last season, he ranked seventh in EPA + CPOE composite, an advanced statistic designed to measure overall passing efficiency.
Now, he is getting another weapon in Smith-Njigba, who should make an immediate impact. Combined with a solid offensive line and expected improvement on defense, I don’t expect this team to take a step back in 2023. Seahawks to make the playoffs (-120).
