Seattle Seahawks 7-Round 2022 NFL Mock Draft eyes Matt Corral as Russell Wilson’s replacement

The Seattle Seahawks made some noise with a trade, but they also make some big splashes in this 7-Round 2022 NFL Mock Draft.

The Seattle Seahawks made one of the biggest trades of the offseason, but this 7-Round 2022 NFL Mock Draft starts the rebuilding process. Unless they trade for another quarterback, that’s where they’ll start. Which 2022 NFL Draft prospects will they target?

Seattle Seahawks 2022 7-Round Mock Draft

Even with the Russell Wilson trade, Seattle can be a contender in the NFC West. The offense still contains Rashaad Penny, DK Metcalf, and Tyler Lockett, so the cupboard isn’t bare. In this Seattle Seahawks 7-Round 2022 NFL Mock Draft, Pete Carroll and John Schneider start with their future and build the defense from there.

Round 1, Pick 9: QB Matt Corral, Ole Miss

Matt Corral has first-round talent, but the question remains if he’ll be selected in it. Current projections seem to be all over the place thanks to a variety of factors, but the Seahawks drafting him in the top 10 seems likely. The offense still has plenty of excitement combining him with Metcalf and Lockett.

Corral won’t be Wilson, but he can bring a similar skill set to the Seahawks’ offense. His accuracy improved under Lane Kiffin, and his ball placement improved immensely, too. Reducing his turnovers from 14 to 5 also showed that he became a better decision-maker and worked to go through his progressions as well.

Round 2, Pick 40: S Daxton Hill, Michigan

Gone are the days of the Legion of Boom, but maybe they can enter a new era with Daxton Hill. Letting the former Michigan Wolverine join Jamal Adams on the back end of the defense would make teams think twice about throwing on the Seahawks.

While Notre Dame safety Kyle Hamilton gets a lot of credit for being versatile, Hill has the ability to be that as well. Michigan asked him to do a lot while in Ann Arbor, from playing the run in the box to playing single-high safety. He’s a safety with the ability to play nickel, something that Seattle will love adding to their defense.

Round 2, Pick 41: LB Troy Andersen, Montana State

Montana State made it all the way to the FCS National Championship Game thanks to guys like Troy Andersen. A strong showing at the NFL Combine already elevated his stock, and now the Seattle Seahawks take him in the second in this 7-Round 2022 NFL Mock Draft.

Andersen’s athleticism jumps out as a linebacker. His sideline-to-sideline speed make any ball carrier within range for him. He’s a natural thanks to his time spent as a running back and quarterback for the Bobcats, so he looks extremely comfortable in space. It just comes down to how he handles blockers. Right now, he’s still working on deconstructing blocks, but he can still make an impact on defense or special teams.

Round 3, Pick 72: CB Cam Taylor-Britt, Nebraska

Cam Taylor-Britt started his season with a rough game against Illinois, but he quickly battled through that adversity to produce an impressive season at corner. He thrives in zone coverage the most, where he showed that he can cover a good amount of the field while also being quick to help stop the run when needed.

Pairing him with Daxton Hill seems like a great move by the Seahawks. Both Taylor-Britt and Hill play physical at the line of scrimmage and cover well in space. Taylor-Britt’s also proven he’s willing to play anywhere for his team. He started with Nebraska as a special-teams player before starting at corner, but he never left special teams. Even if he doesn’t start right away at corner for Seattle, he’ll make an impact.

Round 4, Pick 109: OT Braxton Jones, Southern Utah

Protecting Matt Corral becomes the new priority for the offense, and Braxton Jones has the potential to develop into a good starter. He’s still unpolished as a prospect, but it’s tough to ignore the potential upside in his game. A great wingspan and good athleticism give the Seattle Seahawks some tools to develop for this 2022 NFL Mock Draft, and they don’t necessarily need an instant-impact player at the position.

Round 5, Pick 152: EDGE Jeffrey Gunter, Coastal Carolina

If you never watched Coastal Carolina, go back and do it. While everyone mostly talks about the offense, Jeffrey Gunter and the defense put on a show as well. He produced 38.5 tackles for loss and 17 sacks in his four years with the Chanticleers, and he’s looking to keep that success going at the next level.

More polished as a pass rusher than a run defender, Gunter could rotate in on obvious passing downs. Once the Seahawks can round out his game, he’ll be a three-down edge rusher. The tools are there to develop, so if he’s there in the fifth round, they should absolutely grab him.

Round 5, Pick 153: TE Jake Ferguson, Wisconsin

Barry Alvarez’s grandson is looking to make a name for himself. Wisconsin’s tradition of elite tight end play continued with Jake Ferguson, and now the Seattle Seahawks take him in this 7-Round 2022 NFL Mock Draft. He might not have the upside of an elite first-round tight end, but he’s reliable.

He can push defenders deep and create separation with his straight-line speed. So, teams need to decide if they want a linebacker to run deep with him and risk getting burned or have a defensive back battle his size. He might not have a high ceiling like Kyle Pitts, but Ferguson is a great pick with his skill set.

Round 7, Pick 229: DT Julius Turner, Rutgers

Julius Turner acknowledged that he admires Aaron Donald and what the Los Angeles Rams’ star defensive tackle does on the field. While he might not be another Donald, he has the potential to be a steal in the draft. A former basketball player, the athleticism jumps out on tape. Once he puts it all together, the seventh-round pick for the Seattle Seahawks in this 2022 NFL Mock Draft can make some noise.
