The 2019 Peach Bowl and the first of two College Football Playoff semi-finals feature the top-ranked team in the nation going up against the fourth-ranked. However, I don’t expect this to be much of a contest. While Oklahoma should be able to score points against LSU, I see no way the Sooners defense can stop Joe Burrow and company.
What scouts are watching
Obviously, the match-up at the forefront has Jalen Hurts and CeeDee Lamb facing off against the incredibly talented LSU secondary.
Hurts has grown in every aspect of the quarterback position while Lamb has moved from the shadow of Marquise Brown to prove he’s not only a legitimate number one receiver on the college level, but a terrific next-level prospect. While the duo torched Big 12 defenses all season long, the LSU secondary they’ll be facing is another story altogether.
The Tigers defensive backfield is NFL ready and possesses two players who will be first-rounders in 2020, as well as a third that will be an early pick in 2022. They are deep, talented and will be the toughest test of the year for Hurts and company.
Prediction: Oklahoma may keep the Peach Bowl close in the early stages but in the end, LSU wins by at least 21 points. The Sooners offense will be pressing to keep the team in the game and mistakes are inevitable, something Burrow and the LSU offense avoided this year.
