Eagles’ Saquon Barkley Eyeing Major Bonus Heading Into NFC Championship Game vs Commanders

The Philadelphia Eagles are one game away from another Super Bowl appearance, and all eyes are on their star running back, Saquon Barkley. The former New York Giants athlete can secure a massive bonus tied to his contract while chasing the Lombardi Trophy.

Saquon Barkley Can Cash In Big Time if He Leads Eagles to Super Bowl Glory

If the Eagles win against the Washington Commanders on Sunday, Jan. 26, Barkley could earn $250,000, and if the Eagles go all the way, he’s set to pocket an additional $250,000 (per Spotrac). This potential $500,000 windfall is part of Barkley’s three-year contract, a $37.7 million deal with the Eagles’ front office.

The 27-year-old running back has already cashed in on $2 million in incentives this season, thanks to an All-Pro nod and a 2,000-yard regular season. If we add the league-standard bonuses for playoff success — $77,000 for winning the NFC title and $171,000 for a Super Bowl victory — Barkley could see an estimated total payday of $748,000 on top of his $13.5 million earnings in 2024.

Barkley’s earnings and bonus this season are a result of his greatness on the field this 2024 NFL season. Apart from the regular season heroics, Barkley was exceptional in the snowy Divisional Round victory over the Los Angeles Rams, registering 205 rushing yards and two touchdowns, making it the fifth-highest single-game rushing total in NFL playoff history.

His season total of 2,329 rushing yards — including the postseason — ranks third all-time. Barkley’s dominance isn’t new. Head coach Nick Sirianni will be hoping for a repeat performance from Barkley against the Commanders, as he torched Dan Quinn’s team for 451 yards and four touchdowns over two games this season.

However, Washington will be ready this time around, as was evident in their Week 16 clash with the Eagles. Quinn’s defense limited Barkley to just 41 yards on 22 attempts after quarterback Jalen Hurts left the game due to injury. Hurts’ lingering leg issue affects his mobility, and the Commanders could stack the box to overwhelm Barkley, forcing Philadelphia to change course and look for relief in their passing game.

Nevertheless, Barkley remains focused. “You chase greatness,” the Eagles RB said after the Rams game. “I want it. I felt like this week, you know, I felt I had a good game last week. If I would have scored, numbers look different. But you want to create a legacy, and I want to have those types of games. Just visualizing stuff and wondering what the number is, and it’s funny how that happened.”

The Eagles, heavily reliant on their rushing attack, will need Barkley and Hurts to repeat their season script against a tough Washington defense and punch their ticket to the Super Bowl. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET on Sunday.
