After six seasons with the New York Giants, Saquon Barkley is now a member of their NFC East rivals in the Philadelphia Eagles.
Barkley’s switch caught the NFL world by surprise, especially Giants fans, who were disappointed to see the talented running back join one of their most hated teams. But perhaps nobody’s reaction to Barkley’s surprising move was funnier than his daughter’s.
Saquon Barkley Gets Candid About Family’s Reaction to Eagles Signing
Barkley’s daughter seems excited for her father to be heading to Philadelphia. In a social media video posted by the Eagles, Barkley explained how his daughter reacted when she learned of the news.
“Does that mean we’re going to win now?” she asked her dad.
First thing Saquon Barkley's daughter said when he told her he was going to the Eagles:

While Barkley’s daughter’s remarks were certainly funny, she does have a valid point. Barkley is 2-7 in his career against the Eagles, including a 38-7 playoff loss. He’ll have the chance to rectify that bad record in a fresh start with Philadelphia, where Barkley will now play the Giants twice per year.

Now that the clip has gone viral, Barkley took to social media and reacted to aggregators spreading that clip on X.
Why Did the Eagles Sign Barkley in Free Agency?
While they have typically shied away from signing running backs to big contracts, GM Howie Roseman made Barkley a priority in free agency.
Philadelphia entered the offseason with a need at running back with last year’s starter D’Andre Swift hitting the open market. Prior to the start of free agency, many reports indicated that Swift wouldn’t be returning to the Eagles and that they were going to aggressively pursue Barkley instead.
With new OC Kellen Moore now running the offense, it seems as if the Eagles wanted a three-down back like Barkley to help elevate a unit that greatly underperformed last season. Barkley will be joining an already talented offense that is stacked with playmakers around Jalen Hurts.
Breaking Down Barkley’s Contract With Philadelphia
Barkley signed a three-year deal with Philadelphia worth up to $46.75 million, including $26 million fully guaranteed at signing.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano elaborated on Barkley’s new contract, stating that the Eagles had to outbid the Houston Texans. The Texans offered Barkley eight figures per year and no state income tax. Philadelphia had to increase its offer to $13 million annually if they wanted Barkley. And they did.
How Does Barkley Fit With Eagles’ Current RB Depth Chart?
Barkley immediately becomes the No. 1 option and primary workhorse in Philadelphia’s backfield.

Kenneth Gainwell is the only other RB in that room worth mentioning, so it’s possible that the Eagles will add another at some point in the NFL Draft. Regardless, this is Barkley’s backfield now.
