The San Francisco 49ers are looking to give their already strong defense a boost in the upcoming NFL Draft.
One position that the team may address is cornerback, a need made slightly worse after Logan Ryan’s retirement hurt the unit’s depth.
San Francisco 49ers News Today
With the 2024 NFL Draft quickly approaching, San Francisco is finishing the last of its pre-draft tasks. Who could the team target in Round 1, and what signings could shift its plan of attack?
All of that and more in today’s 49ers news.
49ers Could Address CB Position in Draft
There are plenty of cornerback targets for San Francisco to consider at No. 31. One person of note is Kamari Lassiter, who Pro Football Network NFL Insider Adam Caplan has going to the 49ers with their first-round selection in his latest mock draft.
“As noted previously, the San Francisco 49ers tried hard to acquire a starting cornerback opposite veteran Charvarius Ward at the October trade deadline but couldn’t find that upgrade,” Caplan wrote. Georgia cornerback Kamari Lassiter would fill that void.
Lassiter totaled 86 tackles (60 total), 8.5 tackles for loss, one interception, one sack, and 14 pass deflections in 44 games for Georgia. Lassiter’s speed at his pro day was initially scrutinized, but ESPN’s Field Yates reported that his time may have landed in the “4.50-4.51” range, according to four members of NFL personnel.

Brock Purdy Saves News Anchor From Nearly Getting Attacked by Coyote
There are always some wild stories to come from the NFL offseason, particularly with players having a ton of free time on their hands.
One situation came about with 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy shooting a commercial on a John Deere tractor on a San Francisco street. Offensive lineman Colton McKivitz was on the tractor with Purdy in tow in the Bernal Heights neighborhood of San Francisco.
A coyote began to creep on a woman and her dog and Purdy shouted over, scaring away the wild animal.
“We’re shooting this commercial on a hill on the outside of the city,” Purdy said on The Pat McAfee Show. “I see this thing trotting by that has a big tail. I was like, ‘That looks like a mini wolf.’ No one else was gonna scream, so I screamed, ‘Yo, there’s a coyote!’ That thing went running off. It could’ve been an ugly day on the shoot, but we saved her.”
The woman turned out to be CBS News Bay Area’s Sara Donchey.
“I was walking my dog and I was watching from Bernal Heights Park when I suddenly heard Brock scream, ‘Coyote,'” Donchey recalled on-air. “And I turned around and I saw the biggest coyote I have ever seen, sneaking up behind me and my dog. My dog is huge, so he would’ve been fine. But when I walked back down the hill, one of the film crew guys said, ‘Hey. Brock Purdy saved your life.'”
