Sam Howell has been an electric factory in his second NFL season for the Washington Commanders. He isn’t the most successful young quarterback of all time, but he’s one of the most entertaining players in the league. But that excitement leads to a lot of hits, and his injury against the Giants on an incredible touchdown run is evidence of that.
Sam Howell Injury Update
Howell was 11-of-16 for 114 yards and an interception before rushing for an 8-yard touchdown late in the second quarter. His TD run was as exciting as any play he’s made all season. He broke a few tackles and took a few massive shots before crossing the plane, but the whistle never blew, and he scampered to the front pylon.

Upon arrival, he was blown up yet again, and this time he landed on the turf in visible pain.
Howell went to the blue tent and was evaluated for a concussion. However, he was back on the field on the Commanders’ very next offensive drive.

The Commanders QB has been sacked and hit a ton in his second season, although he’s been taking fewer hits in recent weeks as his trigger gets quicker.
After an uneventful drive, including the Giants’ second sack of the QB, Washington elected to take the game to halftime trailing the Giants by five points.
Possible Fantasy Impact
Commanders QB Sam Howell has been one of the biggest fantasy surprises through the first 10 weeks of the 2023 NFL season.
His injury immediately changes the entire dynamic of the Commanders’ offense if he’s unable to continue. Jacoby Brissett will take over under center while Howell is out of the lineup, which would slightly bump all Washington pass catchers — namely Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, and Logan Thomas — down the weekly fantasy rankings.
