Latest Ryan Tannehill Injury Update
Tannehill took a hit low from the Ravens’ defensive end Justin Madubuike, and his foot got caught underneath the defensive lineman.
The veteran quarterback remained in the game and led the Titans on a scoring drive that ended in a field goal, cutting Tennessee’s deficit to 18-6.

Tannehill’s ankle was taped up after the hit, Jamie Erdahl said on the broadcast.
He later walked to the locker room under his own power and was officially ruled questionable to return by the team. Tannehill came back out of the tunnel in a baseball cap and was carted off the field to receive an X-ray, according to Erdahl.
Tannehill finished 8 of 16 for 76 yards and one interception.
Malik Willis was seen warming up on the sidelines and replaced Tannehill early in the fourth quarter. Will Levis is inactive and thus not an option at the spot.
“That was a great defense and I think it was hard for him to be able to execute some of the stuff, at least from what I was seeing,” Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said after the game. “Then went over to defense and Todd [Toriscelli] came up and said he was having a hard time.
“I knew he was having a hard time, so we were talking about doing some different things in the gun or what his mobility was going to look like. Certainly don’t want to put him in harm’s way and have the ability not to protect himself.”
The interception was Tannehill’s final play of the game on an underthrown pass. Vrabel also said the ankle injury could have contributed to the interception after the game.
“I don’t know that,” Vrabel said of whether the injury caused the pick. “I know it was underthrown, but it would be hard for me to tell you. It was underthrown and probably had something to do with it.”
Tannehill was on crutches when he spoke to reporters postgame. He confirmed that the injury is to the same ankle that sidelined him multiple times last season, according to Mike Herndon.
“I tried to gut it out, and I couldn’t put any force into the throws,” Tannehill said. “I knew I wasn’t going to be able to move. I just kept walking it off, but it was just getting worse and worse. I wasn’t going to be able to make the throws. It’s what happened on the pick.”
Tannehill also said that he will undergo an MRI to assess the injury’s significance, which will give a clearer view of his path moving forward.
“It freaking sucks,” Tannehill said of the injury after the game. “It’s part of the game where I could get injured, but it’s not an enjoyable process, especially when you know it’s got some significance to it. We’ll see what it’s going to look like as we move forward here.
“We’ll get a real look at it when we get back the MRI and everything and get a plan moving forward. It’s frustrating. You battle, you put so much into it, then to have something happen like that, it’s frustrating.”
Tannehill has been up and down through his first five starts in 2023. He has completed 90 of 142 pass attempts for 1,052 yards, two touchdowns, and five interceptions coming into the contest.
Tennessee has a bye next week that could give Tannehill time to recover.
Players can play through ankle injuries and miss time later. Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler played through an ankle sprain in Week 1 before missing three games due to the injury.
Time will tell how much the injury potentially limits Tannehill going forward.
Fantasy Implications of Ryan Tannehill’s Injury
Tannehill took a shot on a pass in the third quarter that could potentially keep him on the sideline for a bit. If he were to miss time, the Titans would turn to second-year QB out of Liberty, Malik Willis.
While there’s been very little fantasy relevance from this offense to begin with, things would get even more murky with Willis captaining the ship.
If Tannehill were to miss the Titans’ next game in Week 8, Willis would be an intriguing waiver wire add simply due to his rushing mobility, but he’s yet to prove that he can withstand the pressure of the NFL, which would most likely make him nothing more than a deeper option in Superflex formats.
