As we inch toward the new season, the ever-changing NFL landscape has player fantasy values constantly on the move. Whether you’re used to the dynasty platform or are still learning the rules, let’s dive into the latest dynasty fantasy football value of Ryan Tannehill.
Ryan Tannehill’s Dynasty Outlook and Value
The Titans have been on quite the run of success since Tannehill supplanted Marcus Mariota as the starter midway through the 2019 season. For a year and a half, Tannehill enjoyed considerable fantasy success. He was remarkably efficient on limited volume.
In 2019 and 2020, Tannehill finished as the overall QB9. He averaged 19 fantasy points per game in 2019 and 22 in 2020. Both marks were career highs. Overall, Tannehill’s performance was very much out of line with the rest of his career.
At first glance, it looked like the ever-rare eight-year breakout. Upon closer inspection, Tannehill is who he’s always been; those 26 games were just a really good run.

Over the past two years, we saw the real Tannehill return. He averaged 219.6 passing yards per game in 2021 and 211.3 in 2022. His touchdown rate snapped back to reality after sitting at 7.7% in 2019 and 6.9% in 2020. It was 4.0% in each of the past two seasons, which is more in line with his career 4.7% average.
The volume was never there in Tennessee’s run-first offense. As a result, Tannehill had to survive on unsustainable TD efficiency. Returning to more normal touchdown rates, Tannehill averaged 16.6 ppg in 2021 and 13.9 in 2022.
Ryan Tannehill’s Fantasy Ranking
Tannehill is now entering his age-35 season. The Titans are a franchise on the precipice of rebuilding. They had their window, but they seem to be aware of the need to reset. It’s part of why they took a shot on Malik Willis in last year’s NFL draft.
This is the final year of Tannehill’s contract with the Titans. In a more normal quarterback environment, I would say he’s a lock to be gone next season. While I still think that’s likely, there’s a shortage of competent starting QBs right now.
Even at 36 in 2024, Tannehill will likely be a clear top-32 quarterback. The Titans will certainly look for an upgrade, but if they don’t find one, it won’t shock me if they bring Tannehill back on a year-to-year basis.
Regardless of where Tannehill plays, his run as a fantasy-relevant QB is over. For the majority of his career, he’s been a low QB2. He had an outlier season in 2014 and then the hot run from 2019-2020.
In Superflex leagues, of course, every starting quarterback must be rostered. As a result, we still have Tannehill at QB24 (No. 111 overall) in our dynasty Superflex rankings.
Tannehill will likely be a starter for the next few years. But in 1QB leagues, he is just a backup — a poor one at that. I am only considering Tannehill in dynasty startup drafts in Superflex, and only if I’m in dire need of a QB2.
