Ryan Day is at the pinnacle of success, enjoying his CFP national championship glory. The Ohio State Buckeyes head coach won his maiden title in 2025 after a terrific win (34-23) over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Georgia.
There have been multiple reports of him drawing interest from NFL circles for multiple roles, potentially a head coaching job. But the Buckeyes coach is clear about his agenda and intends to stay away from any other distractions, although he is making his intentions clear.
Ryan Day Discusses His NFL Opportunities in the Future
Ohio State had a surreal comeback during the College Football Playoff after a major loss to rival Michigan Wolverines in the 2024 regular season. Fans and experts almost counted them out of the championship run, although they had only lost two games. But Day and Co. managed to use their setbacks as fuel to make a massive comeback.
The program managed to punch a College Football Playoff ticket and cruised to the Rose Bowl showdown with a big win over Tennessee in the first round. The Buckeyes would follow up a demolition of Oregon with a big win over the Texas Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl and moved on to the national championship. The winning trail continued, and the Big Ten powerhouse managed to slay the Irish in a dominant fashion.
This week, Day happened to throw light on constant NFL interest and if he would ever consider coaching in the league. “I would never wanna say, ‘I would never consider it,’ because you don’t know how things can change,” Day said per SI.
“I was in the NFL for two years and had a great experience there and it’s a great league. But right now, the impact we can make on young people is, to me, more impactful in college. That’s why I got into this game is to do that, and that’s what I want to do.
“Woody Hayes is the last one to win multiple national championships at Ohio State. That’s something I’ve now set for myself. To be the next head coach to win multiple championships at Ohio State. There’s still a lot more to be done,” he added about his future plans.
There have been multiple head coaching openings in the NFL, like the Tennessee Titans, the New England Patriots, the Dallas Cowboys, or the Chicago Bears, where Day could have been a great candidate. But the veteran coach has still got some unfinished business to do.
