Russell Wilson Makes Feelings Clear on Speculation Around Steelers Exit

Russell Wilson comes out to set the narrative with speculation regarding his future with the Pittsburgh Steelers or the Las Vegas Raiders.

Russell Wilson’s one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers is coming to an end. However, with Justin Fields also in the mix, this quarterback room has become a conundrum for the Steelers.

The waters got even muddier after Pete Carroll became the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders and hinted at recruiting Wilson. Now, the veteran QB has come out to clear his stance.

Russell Wilson Is Focused on His Job at Hand

Pittsburgh president Art Mooney II revealed his plans last week that the Steelers will only be bringing back one QB to a multi-year deal. While he did not disclose whether it’ll be Wilson or not, rumors started swirling that the former Seattle Seahawks man could land in Las Vegas.

Fans, however, disagreed on whether it would be a good decision for everyone involved. Wilson has, in effect, shut that door down during his interview at the Pro Bowl games.

“I’m looking forward to hopefully going back to the Steelers, and we’ll see what happens with the rest,” Wilson told The Associated Press. “I love it in Pittsburgh.”

Steelers Icon Makes His Choice for Next Season

Wilson wasn’t able to end the Steelers’ playoff woes this season, and his 10-year age difference with Fields is working against his chances of staying in Pittsburgh. And as soon as it was made clear that only Wilson or Fields would be able to enjoy the next season in Pittsburgh, the NFL fraternity has been making their views clear on the matter.

Many have supported Wilson — however, former Steelers safety Ryan Clark is not one of them. During an appearance on ESPN’s “NFL Live,” Clark picked Fields.

“I think they should re-sign Justin Fields,” Clark said. “Here is why. I think you figure out, can he be the guy for the future? And if he bombs, at least, you can go high in the draft and get you somebody good, somebody that could play.

“There’s nobody on the market that you’re going to be able to get that’s going to come in there and outplay Justin Fields.”

Clark further added that handing over the reins to Wilson and letting Fields go will not only not solve their issues for next season but could also hamper the Steelers’ future.
