The Broncos are struggling, but is Russell Wilson still a viable option for fantasy managers? Let's look at the numbers and see if he should start this week.

The terrible start for the Denver Broncos, along with an offense that appears to be in decline, has left a lot of fantasy football managers struggling to decide whether Russell Wilson is a worthwhile option to start this week. Should I Start or Sit Russell Wilson in Fantasy This Week?

It’s clear that Wilson is having a much better season than in 2022. But fantasy managers want to know if that is still enough to put him as a starter, especially this week vs. the defending Super Bowl champions.

Last week was not Wilson’s finest hour. He threw for a season-low 177 yards in a loss to the Jets, and his yards per pass attempt (5.2) was also a season-low.

However, Wilson also completed nearly 80% of his throws (79.4%), threw two touchdowns — the fourth time in five games he has had multiple TD passes — and finished with a passer rating of over 100 (108.0) for the fourth time this season. A year ago, Wilson had a passer rating of 100 or better five times in 15 games.

Wilson ranks fourth in the NFL in passer rating (106.1), and he is the only one of the top five on this list with a losing record. So, how much of the Broncos’ struggles really should fall on him?

More importantly for this piece, without a clear-cut No. 1 WR to throw to, it’s been difficult to get a read on just how good (or bad) Wilson really is as a quarterback at this point.

Fantasy Outlook for Wilson vs. Chiefs

There are still plenty of reasons to start Wilson this week vs. the Chiefs. For one, Kansas City’s defense ranks 13th in yards allowed (204.2 YPG) and has intercepted only one pass all season. Wilson, on the other hand, has 11 TD passes to just two INTs on the season.

Wilson also has had success against the Chiefs, dating back to his days with Seattle. But Wilson also put up good numbers against Kansas City last year, his first season with the Broncos. In two games, Wilson threw for 234.5 YPG and had four touchdown passes, including three in Week 14.

The Broncos are struggling. Wilson hasn’t been the biggest reason. Take a chance this week against a familiar opponent.
