2020 NFL Draft: First-round mock draft with the best player props available

Against the Spread podcast host Ryan Gosling breaks down how he sees round one of the NFL Draft taking place. In this mock, he included some player props that could hit if the board falls this way.

    17) Dallas Cowboys: K’Lavon Chaisson, EDGE LSU

The Dallas Cowboys need to continue to add to their defense. Chaisson is that missing piece. If you watch tape on Chaisson, you would be able to see that he is precisely the kind of explosive player that this defensive line needs. He made 60 tackles (13.5 for loss) with 6.5 sacks, and two pass breakups as a sophomore in 2019 while earning first-team All-SEC honors.

Their current roster doesn’t offer much when it comes to a consistent edge pressure outside of DeMarcus Lawrence. There is some hope they can get Randy Gregory and newly-acquired Aldon Smith reinstated, but whether they can get peak performance out of either is a longshot.

Bet #1: Chaisson being selected under 17.5 -120 (1 unit)

Bet #2: Chaisson second EDGE drafted in the first round -165 (1 unit)

    18) Miami Dolphins: Xavier McKinney, Safety Alabama

Now that the Dolphins have landed their new franchise QB, they need to focus on the rest of their roster. After adding some big names during the offseason, they bring in a talented safety in McKinney. Pro Football Network’s Brad Kelly broke this pick down perfectly in his most recent mock draft.

“Miami suddenly has two lock-down cornerbacks, but their current safety depth chart leaves a lot to be desired. Head coach Brian Flores will be looking for his own version of Devin McCourty and Patrick Chung, and McKinney brings intelligence and versatility.”

Prop Bet: The only play I like here is McKinney to be the first safety drafted. The price is high at -300, but I don’t see anyone else getting ahead of him.

    19) Las Vegas Raiders: Patrick Queen, LB LSU

With their second pick in the first round, the Raiders will turn to the defense. In Queen, they get an immediate starter with All-Pro potential. He is more of a safety than a pure linebacker. He will need to add more muscle and refine his technique in order not to be pushed around in the running game.

    20) Jacksonville Jaguars: Jordan Love, QB Utah State

The Jaguars are heading into the season with Gardner Minshew as their starting QB. His first season was a roller coaster, and the team will need to bring in an insurance policy just in case.

Love threw for 3,402 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions last year. While his senior season doesn’t emulate his junior season numbers, Love has the potential to shine in the NFL. His biggest strength is his ability to throw the deep ball. The 6’4 ‘4 ″ quarterback stands tall in the pocket when launching balls down the field.

Prop Bet: I have been saying for a long time that I think Love will be selected higher than most believe. Some had him in the top-10 at certain points. I took his over at 12.5 and have continued to add to it at 17.5 and now 19.5.

    21) Philadelphia Eagles: Denzel Mims, WR Baylor

The Eagles have one of the worst receiving corps in the NFL. It hasn’t gotten better in the offseason, and they will need to address the position in the first round.

I have had Jefferson scheduled to go to the Eagles for a long time, but his stock has risen too high for 21. Instead, they get Mims. The Baylor wide receiver is an elite athlete, as evidenced by his otherworldly 4.38-second 40-yard dash and position-best 6.66-second three-cone drill.

    22) Minnesota Vikings: Laviska Shenault, WR Colorado

The Vikings traded away their top wide receiver in Stefon Diggs to the Buffalo Bills this offseason. Now, with their first pick in the draft, they bring in Shenault to try and put back together their wide receiving core.

Shenault had high hopes heading into last year’s season. Then a combination of injuries and bad play led to a disappointing finish at Colorado. Then, at the NFL Combine, he did not impress with a 4.58-second 40-yard dash. Shortly after, he announced he would undergo surgery on a nagging core issue and be out four-to-six weeks.

Prop Bet: With Shenault going in the first round, this brings our WR total to six. Take the over on 5.5 WRs at the significant price of -225.

    23) New England Patriots: Cesar Ruiz, C/G Michigan

At 6-foot-3, 307 pounds, Cesar Ruiz plays a center/guard combination and checks off a lot of boxes for the Patriots on the offensive line. They are going to need as much help as possible, protecting first-year starter Jarrett Stidham. Ruiz brings depth and skill to an already talented line.

Prop bet: Patriots draft offense at -120 (1 unit).

    24) New Orleans Saints: Javon Kinlaw, DT South Carolina

The New Orleans Saints do not have a lot of holes on their roster. That allows them to draft with a “best player available” approach. Well, Kinlaw is arguably the best player available at this point in the draft. His interior pass rush upside makes him a value pick at this point.

    25) Minnesota Vikings: Josh Jones, OT Houston

With their second pick in the first round, the Vikings work on building up their offensive line. With Kirk Cousins signed for another few years, and Dalvin Cook producing big numbers out of the backfield, the team needs to ensure they remain protected.

Jones has excellent size and is a perfect fit for the Vikings’ zone-blocking scheme because of his mobility.

    26) Miami Dolphins: Austin Jackson, OT USC

The Dolphins bring in Tua, and now they need to protect him. Austin Jackson will be a big part of protecting the franchise QB. Miami needs to add a left tackle in this draft, at Jackson played at that position for every game in his career. He is a raw prospect but will be coachable under Brian Flores. He is still young, not even 21 years old, and he’s’s talented enough to play in any type of scheme.

    27) Seattle Seahawks: Yetur Gross-Matos, DE Penn State

The Seahawks enter the 2020 NFL Draft with a need at the edge rusher position. Listed at 6’5″ and 266 pounds, Gross-Matos earned first-team All-Big Ten selections each of the last two seasons. He compiled 40 total tackles and nine sacks in 2019 for a Penn State team that went 11-2 and won the 2019 Cotton Bowl. He is the perfect prospect for Seattle.

Prop Bet: Take his over at 26.5 -125 (1 unit).

    28) Baltimore Ravens – A.J. Epenesa, DE Iowa

The Ravens, similar to the Saints, do not have many holes on their roster. They can add to the defensive side of the ball, and that is what they do with Epenesa.

Coming off a highly productive college career that saw him total 22 sacks and 30.5 tackles for loss over the past two seasons. Epenesa was a second-team All-American in 2019 when he totaled 11.5 sacks with 49 total tackles.

At 6-foot-5, 275 pounds, he has the size and versatility to make an impact in the NFL.

    29) Tennessee Titans: Jeff Gladney, CB TCU

The Titans currently have Malcolm Butler and Adoree Jackson atop the cornerback depth chart. Beyond that, though, they are quite thin on depth. Gladney, who is a bit undersized for the position at 5-foot-9, is a quick and aggressive corner that has unlimited potential.

In 2019, Gladney had 14 pass deflections to lead the Big 12. He also performed well at the NFL Scouting Combine, helping increase his draft stock.

    30) Green Bay Packers: Tee Higgins, WR Clemson

The Green Bay Packers need to give Aaron Rodgers some more weapons before the window closes on his potential hall of fame career. Higgins is a fringe first-round receiver that has enormous potential. He is tied for the most receiving touchdowns in Clemson history with 27, equaling a mark set by NFL standouts DeAndre Hopkins and Sammy Watkins.

Bet #1: Packers draft an offensive player at -186 (1 unit)

    Bet# 2: Tee Higgins under 32.5 -120 (1 unit)

    31) San Francisco 49ers: Kenneth Murray, LB Oklahoma

The 49ers are going to start the season after losing in the Super Bowl by shoring up their defense. The team will use the best player available approach to add a big, athletic linebacker that will continue to make their defense terrifying. They could very likely trade this pick, but as of now, Murray will be heading to San Fran.

    32) Kansas City Chiefs: Zack Baun, LB/EDGE Wisconsin

The Chiefs are coming off a victory in Super Bowl LIV, and they have almost all of their important players returning from that squad. They will use the draft to bring in Wisconsin’s Zack Baun. The Badgers defender had a monster 2019 season, finishing with 12.5 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss in 14 games.

Prop Bet: A lot of people expect the Chiefs to draft a running back here, but I don’t see it happening. This means taking the under 0.5 RBs drafted in the first round at plus money (+250) could be a good play.
