Romeo Doubs’ Best Ball Fantasy Outlook: Where Does He Fit in a Crowded Packers WR Room?

    Published on

The Packers have a plethora of solid WRs but no one that really stands out just yet. Could Romeo Doubs be the most valuable one for fantasy?

The Green Bay Packers have assembled quite a young and formidable WR corps. Having three or four reliable options is great for the Packers but a nightmare for fantasy football managers. Is Romeo Doubs the best value in Best Ball among this team’s wide receivers?

    Romeo Doubs’ 2024 Fantasy Outlook

I couldn’t have been less interested in Doubs last season. His rookie year was wholly unimpressive, totaling just 425 receiving yards. The Packers had what I perceived to be more talented receivers in Christian Watson and Jayden Reed on the team.

If you started Doubs in the right weeks, he was definitely a useful fantasy asset. But overall, the fade of Doubs was probably the right call.

On the season, Doubs averaged 10.3 fantasy points per game, finishing as the overall WR46. That’s worth rostering, but not exactly moving any needles.

Where Doubs really shined was his penchant for spike weeks. He had five games with at least 16.3 fantasy points. Of course, that means the other 12 weren’t exactly doing fantasy managers much good.

One spot in which I will take the L is Doubs vs. Watson. After last season, there’s zero doubt which player I would rather have. The concern with Doubs is that he really struggled to produce when Watson was active. All three of Doubs’ best games from last season came in the first four weeks of the season while Watson was nursing a hamstring strain.

Additionally, the Packers don’t really have a clear hierarchy at wide receiver. Reed looks like the most talented receiver on the team, but it seems that the featured pass-catcher in each game depends on the opponent. That makes for an incredibly difficult evaluation for fantasy purposes.

Should You Draft Doubs in 2024 Best Ball Leagues?

Doubs has done enough to prove that, if he is peppered with targets, he can produce WR2 numbers. Unfortunately, we have no reason to believe that will happen.

In addition to Reed and Watson, Doubs will also have to contend with Bo Melton, who put together some strong games down the stretch last season. This is really looking like a wide receiver by committee.

I love Jordan Love. He’s a quarterback I intend to target aggressively in leagues where I don’t take one early. But this is a rate situation where he and running back Josh Jacobs are the only two Packers I am looking to draft.

Doubs saw just a 17.1% target share last season and was targeted on a paltry 18.9% of his routes run. Much like every other Packers receiver, he was not an every-down player.

If you draft Love, stacking him with Doubs isn’t the worst idea. Doubs is going to have his weeks, but he is not someone Best Ball drafters should be actively looking to select.
