Deion Sanders and his potential reunion with the Dallas Cowboys is all over the news. The Pro Football Hall of Famer recently had a discussion with owner Jerry Jones about the job. However, he denied it, saying he loves coaching at Colorado.
Another option who could rival Sanders for the job is Robert Saleh, who was fired by the New York Jets after a 2-3 start to the season. As a strong defensive mind, he would be taking over a unit that ranked 26th in PFN’s Defense+ metric in 2024. Radio host Rich Eisen compared both coaches as the rumors continued to swirl.
Rich Eisen Weighs In Between Deion Sanders and Robert Saleh
While discussing the next head coach of the Cowboys, two names were consistently brought up: Sanders and Saleh.
Eisen highlighted just how rare Sanders’ allure truly is by contrasting it with Saleh’s.
“No one’s Deion,” the insider said. “No one is Deion. No one.”
Eisen humorously said that while Saleh is a respected coach, Sanders thrives in the spotlight. He is the spotlight, and America’s Team only amplifies that.
“Robert Saleh has never hosted SNL or rapped about being ‘Must Be the Money.’ He has never almost won the MVP in a World Series,” Eisen added. “But out of all of those, which one would you want to see if Robert Saleh was the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys? His return to the Jets—that’s about it, right?
Eisen said when it comes to buzz and level of interest among fans, no one can fill more seats than Coach Prime.
“So, if you’re talking about whether the buzz matters, if the interest level matters, if being talked about really does matter, there’s really only one guy that can actually put it into another orbit, into the stratosphere. It’s that simple,” Eisen added.
Rich Eisen on Lookout of Dallas Cowboys Under Deion Sanders
Eisen also made his thoughts clear on how things will change if Sanders does become the head coach of the Cowboys. He believes the likes of Warren Sapp and franchise legend Michael Irvin will be actively involved with Dallas, possibly even taking coaching positions on his staff.
“I’m sure that’s part of the reason why Jerry Jones is enamored by the idea of having Deion, bringing the X’s and O’s, and maybe even bringing in Warren Sapp to coach the defensive line,” Eisen said.
“Do you think Michael Irvin would be part of the program a little bit more? And so on and so on. I’m sure as Jerry’s sitting there thinking about it, it makes complete sense in that regard.”
All could fall in place for Coach Prime if he does decide to move on from Colorado. However, seeing his love and recruitment efforts in Boulder, there’s a good chance the NFL will have to wait.
