Robert Griffin III Urges Buffalo Bills To Make Move for Myles Garrett

Griffin is calling on the Buffalo Bills to be aggressive in pursuing the star pass rusher via trade. Garrett registered 14 sacks in 2024 and was the leader of a Browns’ defensive unit that ranked ninth-best by PFN’s Defense+ metric.

For Buffalo, trading for a player as impactful as Garrett is a no-brainer. The Bills have been one of the NFL’s most successful teams in recent years, but they haven’t been able to get over the proverbial hump and reach the Super Bowl.

Buffalo has suffered playoff losses to the Kansas City Chiefs in four of the last five seasons, but a player of Garrett’s caliber could be the final piece needed to complete the puzzle and help the Bills overcome the roadblock that is the Chiefs’ dynasty.

What Would It Cost To Trade for Garett?

The cost of trading for Garrett would be astronomical for Buffalo, or any team for that matter that wants to acquire his services. The Browns have remained steadfast in their assertion they aren’t interested in trading their star player, so it will likely take a king’s ransom to get Cleveland to even pick up the phone.

In addition to a significant trade compensation package, Garrett’s new team will also have to pay him a lucrative deal. He still has two years remaining on his contract but will soon be looking for a new deal that ranks among the highest-paid defensive players in the NFL.

In 2023, Nick Bosa signed a five-year, $170 million ($34 million AAV) deal with the San Francisco 49ers, and Garrett’s next contract is expected to fall in a similar ballpark.

While acquiring Garrett would be a costly endeavor for the Bills’ front office to pull off, the franchise winning its first Super Bowl would be worth every penny. Garrett would make Buffalo the odds-on favorite to lift the Lombardi Trophy, so the Bills’ front office should stop at nothing in their pursuit of the star edge rusher this offseason.
