Former NFL star Deion Sanders surprised everybody with the way he led Colorado to bowl eligibility in his second year as the Buffaloes’ coach.
While the hype around Colorado was similar in the first few weeks of the 2023 season, the Colorado team fell short last season and ended with a 4-8 record.
However, thanks to Sanders’ undying spirit and necessary roster and coaching staff changes, the Buffaloes are now ensured bowl eligibility following their electric 34-23 win against Cincinnati.
Both Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders made their mark at Folsom Field on Saturday. While the Colorado quarterback completed 25 out of 30 passes for 323 yards and three total touchdowns, the Buffaloes’ two-way star caught nine catches for 153 yards, scored two touchdowns, and made four pass breakups during the Cincinnati clash.
Robert Griffin III Heaps Praise on Deion Sanders’ Squad
It’s safe to say, that both Colorado stars shined bright during last night’s matchups, and former NFL QB Robert Griffin III thinks no differently.
A few hours after the game ended, Griffin took to X (previously known as Twitter) to shower praise on Deion and Shedeur Sanders, Travis, and the whole Colorado squad:
“Colorado is Bowl Eligible. Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter are the TOP 5 In the Heisman Race. Coach Prime is a top candidate for Coach of the Year. And the haters are BIG MAD. Success is the best revenge.”

Earlier following Colorado’s 38-31 win against Griffin’s alma mater Baylor Bears, the former ESPN analyst took to his Instagram to appreciate the trio’s relevance in the world of college football.
“Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter both made plays against Baylor when their team and coach needed them the most. They made those plays in the biggest moments of the game because prime-time players, make prime-time plays in prime-time moments.”
Sanders’ Advice to Travis Hunter Before Gamedays
Coach Prime and Hunter both share a beautiful bond both on and off the field, from fishing together to having intense moments on the sidelines.
During a recent podcast with former Heisman trophy winner Charles Woodson, Hunter shared one piece of advice he got from Coach Prime:
“We text every morning… he always tells me ‘stay low’ on the defensive side of the ball and ‘be you’ on the offensive side of the ball. ‘Believe in yourself and have fun.’ That’s a simple sentence he gives me every gameday.”
Deion’s Colorado will be going head-to-head against Texas Tech on Nov. 9.
