Rob Gronkowski Makes Feeling Clear on Tom Brady’s Rookie Year as an NFL Broadcaster

Tom Brady's first year as a broadcaster with Fox came with mixed reviews. While some have been critical, former teammate Rob Gronkowski chimed in.

Tom Brady’s first year as a broadcaster with the NFL on Fox has come with mixed reviews. Some think Brady has done a good job as a broadcaster while others think he needs a little work.

One person who seems to think Brady did a good job his first year is former New England Patriots teammate Rob Gronkowski.

Gronk shared his feelings recently on how he thought Brady did as a broadcaster.

Despite some criticism, Gronk thinks Brady has done a good job as a broadcaster.

“I love what Tom’s doing. He’s been developing throughout the whole year. He was like a rookie quarterback coming in as the No. 1 pick [when he went into broadcasting],” Gronkowski said.

“A lot of pressure. There’s no doubt about that. I think it was kind of unfair, some of the pressure he was getting at the beginning of the year. … Some of the expectations were extremely high to the point that everyone thought he was going to come in and be the best broadcaster of all time because of how much it was talked about,” Gronkowski said.

Gronkowski, who spent his whole career alongside Brady and caught 90 touchdowns from the Patriots and Buccaneers’ legendary quarterback en route to four Super Bowl rings as a duo, continued on Brady’s rookie broadcasting campaign.

“He has shown tremendous improvement from Week 1 to now where he has such a great grasp of it that he can handle any situation and it’s super enjoyable watching him succeed. He is going to absolutely dominate when it comes to the playoffs and the Super Bowl.”

Brady replaced Greg Olsen in the booth this season on Fox’s lead crew, which was a shock for many fans because Olsen had done such a good job in the booth. Early last year, Olsen addressed the demotion.

“I mean, all things indicate that Tom [Brady] is going to come and do it,” Olsen told WCNC out of Charlotte. “From everything that we’ve heard and everything everyone’s heard, what that means for me going forward is yet to be determined.”

“From the time I took the job, I said I’m not taking this just content on being one of the crews. I want to be the best crew,” Olsen said. “If not, why? I’m not going to waste my time, I don’t have to do this. And they understand that and I think they believe and I think that’s a big reason why they gave me the opportunity to call these games because they believed in me and they trusted that I wasn’t going to embarrass them.”

Both Olsen and Brady seem to have gotten comfortable in their new roles in the booth; Brady is set to commentate the Super Bowl in Feb. 2025 while Olsen has continued to excel in the booth and has even discussed an interest in other roles in the future.
