Rob Gronkowski Reveals Coach Who Could Try To Get Him Out of Retirement

Thoughts of a Rob Gronkowski return to the NFL seem to never come to a cease for the happily retired four-time Super Bowl champion. However, on the Wednesday edition of “Up and Adams” with Kay Adams, Gronk revealed one surprising coach who could try to coax him into returning.

Who Could Get Rob Gronkowski To Unretire?

If there is one coach in the league right now who is capable of convincing Gronkowski to come out of retirement, it’s a former AFC East rival assistant now in the NFC East.

Brian Daboll wants me on his roster,” Gronkowski told Adams, referencing the New York Giants head coach who guided the team to the postseason in 2022.

Adams then asked, “Where’s the window?” In other words, is Gronkowski open to one more NFL return?

“I’d love to pretend that I could still play,” Gronkowski said. “No, I can’t. I’m washed up.”

But again, Adams asked who is the best coach who could get him out of retirement. “I mean, he can’t get me out of retirement, but he would have the best chance to get me out.”

Daboll recently guided the Giants to a third-place finish in Year 1 as a head coach. However, their 9-7-1 mark was still good enough to qualify for the playoffs, ending a five-year postseason drought.

Gronkowski and Darren Waller in the Same TE Room?

The thought of Gronk in a Daboll-led offense provided this stirring thought: Gronkowski being in the same tight end room with another Pro Bowler in Darren Waller.

“That would be pretty wild,” Gronkowski first shared.

Waller has defeated opponents with his uncanny mix of towering height at 6’7″ and wide receiver speed, even carrying up to 255 pounds. Gronkowski still believes placing two athletic tights ends on the same field creates a wide range of mismatches.

“I’ve always believed that having two tight ends is the best. It makes the defense have the most difficult times,” Gronkowski said. “If you have two tight ends, I think that can make an offense unstoppable. And it’s rare.”

“If you go back to my days when I had another tight end, it just makes the offense prolific,” Gronkowski continued. “It’s just unstoppable. It gives you so many more options in the run game, the pass game, and the play action.”

Outside of Waller, the Giants’ other tight ends are veterans Tommy Sweeney, Chris Myarick, Lawrence Cager, Daniel Bellinger, and rookie Ryan Jones.
