After weeks of trade speculation, the Chicago Bears have finally moved on from Justin Fields after three seasons since drafting him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
With Fields now gone, the Bears seem poised to draft USC QB Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick in 2024. One NFL analyst, however, believes that Williams should refuse to play for Chicago after its failure to develop Fields.
RGIII Suggests Caleb Williams Should Reject Bears
We’ve seen it before with Eli Manning, but could we see a first-round quarterback deny a team the ability to draft him once again? According to former first-round pick and current ESPN NFL analyst Robert Griffin III, that’s exactly what Williams should do to the Bears in this year’s draft.

RGIII’s post reads, “Caleb Williams should pull an Eli Manning and tell the Chicago Bears I AIN’T COMING,” before diving into his opinion on the matter.
“Caleb Williams should pull an Eli Manning and demand the Chicago Bears do not draft him No. 1 overall,” he started. “After everything that happened with just Justin Fields, can Caleb Williams really look at that and say, ‘You know what, this is the organization that has my best interest at heart, and they’re going to help develop me into the player that I want to become?’
“This is about Caleb Williams and what team gives him the best chance to be successful. Only he can deem that. He does have power right now, and he should exercise it if he feels like Chicago is not where he should be.”
RGIII’s take is a unique one, as many around the NFL saw the Fields move as a likely end to his era in Chicago. Also, the organization has been aggressive in adding talent around their next quarterback, setting up what many believe to be a solid situation to step into as a rookie QB.
Griffin’s thought that Williams should do what’s best for him is correct. Many would agree that is the right mindset, but the idea that the Bears will outright damage him and his career based on moves they’ve made seems backward.

As he mentioned, Williams will be walking into an offense that includes D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen, Cole Kmet, and D’Andre Swift. There are far worse situations to walk into than the one they’re building in the Windy City.
