Amid reports that the Los Angeles Rams intend to move on from Cooper Kupp this offseason, the team has made a massive addition to its wide receiver room by signing Davante Adams to a two-year, $46 million deal.

Rams Replace One Superstar WR With Another
Kupp broke out for the Rams in 2021, catching 145 passes for 1,947 yards, both second in NFL history for a single season, along with 16 touchdowns en route to a Super Bowl title.
Kupp has failed to match that production since and has struggled with injuries, and the Rams are looking to find a way out of his three-year, $80.1 million contract. Losing Kupp would leave a hole on the depth chart next to Puka Nacua, but the Rams were proactive by addressing the position early, adding Adams as a replacement in preparation for Kupp’s inevitable departure.

Adams’ deal with the Rams is for two years and $46 million with a robust $26 million guaranteed. Los Angeles also recently re-signed Tutu Atwell to a one-year extension, rounding out a potent wide receiver trio along with Adams and Nacua, with Demarcus Robinson set to be a free agent.
The Rams finished as the 11th-ranked offense in the NFL, with a 79.3 grade according to PFSN’s Offense+ metric. With a veteran quarterback in Stafford and one of the league’s best receiver groups being coached by an offensive guru in Sean McVay, the offensive unit in Los Angeles appears to be destined for greatness in 2025.
Cooper Kupp to Davante Adams: An Ace Move by the Rams
Adams is 32 years old, but the veteran wide receiver has maintained elite production, and will be a dangerous weapon for Matthew Stafford. Stafford finished with a QB+ grade of 71.9 in 2024, his second-worst since 2019, ranking No. 22 in the NFL. The Rams are hoping that by adding one of the league’s most dynamic receivers, they will give their veteran quarterback a boost going into next season.
While Kupp had one of the highest peaks of any player in NFL history, Adams has been healthier throughout his career; as a result, he has been more consistent and available, which is why the Rams’ front office likely views this as an upgrade. Kupp played just nine games in 2022 and 12 games in each of the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Adams has played a minimum of 12 games in every season since his career began in 2014.

Adams caught 85 passes for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns for the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets in 2024, and he has posted a minimum of 800 receiving yards in nine consecutive seasons. He is poised to continue his elite consistency as a member of the Rams in 2025 alongside a top WR booster in Stafford.
The move takes one of the top free agency targets off the board — Adams was ranked as the No. 5 overall player available in PFSN’s Top 100 NFL Free Agent Rankings. Adams was expected to be highly sought after, but the Rams beat the rest of the league to the punch.
