‘I’ve Got My Eye on It’ – Dolphins Fantasy God Raheem Mostert Could Break a Legend’s Insane Record

Only one player in NFL history has scored more than 30 touchdowns in a season. Miami Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert is on pace to be the second.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Raheem Mostert’s dream start to 2023 has made him a bunch of new friends on social media.

The Miami Dolphins running back has been a surprise fantasy star a third of the way through the season, and he has heard from “quite a bit” of people thrilled to have him on their teams.

That’s what happens when you score 11 touchdowns in six games — which not only are the most in the NFL entering Week 7 but have him on pace to break one of the NFL’s most untouchable records.

From the current NFL standings to team depth charts to coverage of every game in the 18-week NFL schedule, we have all the news from around the league to keep you up to speed!

Miami Dolphins RB Raheem Mostert Is Chasing LaDainian Tomlinson

The record for combined rushing/receiving touchdowns in a season is a monster number — 31, set by Los Angeles Chargers Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson in 2006.

In the 16+ seasons since, no NFL player has had more than 21.

But Mostert would give it a scare if he somehow keeps up his remarkable pace.

“I’ve got my eye on it,” Mostert said of Tomlinson’s record. “… I’m fairly familiar with the record, and, you know, it’d be an honor to even get close to that. I know I’m on a little hot streak right now. But L.T.’s record, that’s unbelievable.”

Mostert, both the AFC’s and PFN’s Offensive Player of the Week for Week 6, later continued:

“That was his MVP year. Growing up, you know, watching this tape and those highlights, it’s just remarkable. I mean, I still do to this day.

“He’s a legend, and I was fortunate enough to meet him when I was in San Fran, and we had at least 20, 30-minute chat on the field; man, it was just remarkable, man. He’s a special guy. He’s a special cat.”

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel thinks the same of Mostert. And given the Dolphins’ injury concerns at running back — both De’Von Achane and Chris Brooks are out multiple weeks due to injury — he should get plenty of touches.

“It’s really cool to watch,” McDaniel said Sunday after a three-touchdown day by Mostert. “The guy is hungry for every opportunity, and I think you see his will in the way he runs the ball. Down around the goal line, a lot of times, the perfect play doesn’t exist, and it’s a battle of wills, and he’s not a guy that a lot of people want to tackle.”
