There is nothing worse than RB injuries that hit fantasy football lineups late in the season, just as you are prepping for the playoffs. Conversely, the joy a RB returning from IR can bring is priceless. What are the injury updates on Raheem Mostert, De’Von Achane, and Antonio Gibson?
RB Injury Updates
Raheem Mostert, Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins offense has been delightful this season, and a big part of it has been Mostert. He is currently the RB2 on the year, finishing all but two weeks within the top 20. It didn’t even matter if Achane was on the field with him — in the weeks that Achane was active, Mostert was only outside the top 10 once.
Mostert was limited in practice on Wednesday due to an ankle and knee issue. Fantasy managers shouldn’t be too concerned with this, as veterans often have a light or rest day in the middle of the week, and with Achane out, Mostert has been putting the miles on those tires.
Mostert has had issues with injuries in previous seasons, so it is wise to keep an eye on any time he misses practice or is limited.
De’Von Achane, Miami Dolphins
Achane, still the RB24 with only playing four games, is looking to return this Sunday against Las Vegas. The Dolphins opened Achane’s 21-day practice window this week, but we are yet to know if he will make it on the field on Sunday.
Head coach Mike McDaniel spoke to the media today and had a fair amount to say about the young speedster. When asked about how Achane looked in proactive, McDaniel responded, ” Well, I mean, you should’ve seen it Monday. The whole practice, he didn’t get tackled once. He looked good running around.”
McDaniel continued, “He checked all the boxes of doing ball handling, and he didn’t forget his assignments. He’s come a long way in a short period of time to become – it feels like he’s not a rookie in the locker room, and that’s what the locker room needed from him. We don’t have time for rookies anymore. This is pro ball. And he acted like a pro on Monday. So, we’ll see what that results in today in the most important practice and day of our lives.”
The coaching staff clearly feels good about how Achane has progressed through his rehab, and fantasy managers are hopeful that will result in him taking the field this week.
Antonio Gibson, Washington Commanders
The Commanders have had a solid one-two punch of Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson this season, but they might be down to one this weekend — Gibson did not practice on Wednesday because of a toe issue.
Gibson has been especially good the last two weeks, finishing as RB18 and RB16. In Week 10 against Seattle, he logged 55 all-purpose yards and one TD. Monitor the practice reports for the rest of the week to see how Gibson progresses. If he cannot take the field, expect the Robinson show.
