The New York Jets just hit the hiring headlines, but not everyone’s cheering from the sidelines. Former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is stepping in as the Jets’ new head coach, and the decision has some folks seriously baffled.
Glenn’s defensive chops are undeniable, but critics wonder if the Jets needed a splashier offensive mind to fix their quarterback struggles.
Jets’ Head Coach Hire, Aaron Glenn, Sparks Doubts
The Jets’ latest move has sparked a fiery debate. Hiring Glenn as the new head coach has radio host Craig Carton raising eyebrows and concerns.
“It’s another first-time head coach from the defensive side of the ball. As Jets fans, while we like Aaron Glenn because he’s one of us… I want a guy to light it up on the score board,” Carton said, capturing the sentiment of fans yearning for an offensive maestro to jolt the Jets’ stagnant scoreboard.
Glenn, a former Jets Pro Bowler, comes with undeniable defensive credentials, but is it enough to fix a team desperate for offensive identity?
Carton didn’t mince words. He questioned the timing of the hire, pointing out to the fact the Jets locked Glenn in before naming a general manager — a move Carton sees as a sign of panic.
He said, “I have respect for Aaron Glenn. He was a Pro Bowler for the New York Jets. Loved him as a fan of the Jets. I don’t know. It’s another defensive coach. We don’t have a general manager. It doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense to me that you’d hire the coach without hiring the general manager first.”

Carton continued, hinting at a rushed decision, “Clearly, the Jets were afraid that he was going to go accept the job somewhere else. So they panicked a little bit, and they got the deal done without having a GM. I’d love to know who my quarterback is… I have to assume that’s the first question he asked Woody Johnson, what’s our plan with Aaron Rodgers, because that changes the dynamic of the New York Jets from an offensive standpoint.”
Without a GM or clarity on Aaron Rodgers’ future, the franchise seems adrift. Glenn’s potential strategy hinges on the team’s QB situation, and Carton speculated this was his first question to Jets owner Woody Johnson.
Carton’s skepticism extended to other rumored hires, like Steve Wilks as defensive coordinator — a choice Carton labeled a “loser hire.” The analyst noted, “I know I’ve heard that they might be bringing in your Steve Wilks to be the defensive coordinator, that’s a loser hire, and I don’t know who the offensive coordinator is going to be.”
With no offensive coordinator announced, Carton admitted his excitement is tempered. While he respects Glenn as a player and a fan favorite, he’s unsure if Glenn can thrive as a first-time head coach.
Aaron Glenn’s Ready To Lead Jets to Glory
The Jets just made their biggest move yet — Glenn is back with Gang Green. And while it’s a homecoming, Glenn’s got more than nostalgia on his mind.
“This place is special for me,” Glenn said, diving into his emotional connection with the Jets. “From the time I was drafted and practiced on Long Island, to the time I came back as a scout in New Jersey, this organization has always felt like home.”
But it’s not all warm fuzzies. The former Pro Bowl cornerback-turned-defensive-mastermind is here to deliver results. After turning the Lions’ defense into a wrecking ball, Glenn’s ready to shake up the Jets and build a championship contender.
“To our players, prepare to be coached with everything we have,” he warned. “We’re working towards winning a championship.”
And to the Jets’ loyal (yet long-suffering) fans? Glenn’s got a message. “Expect a winning team that you will be proud of.”
The Jets’ rebuilding plan just got a major jolt, and Glenn’s leadership could finally be the spark they’ve been missing. Welcome back, Coach, time to turn this ship around.
