This is all going down as Ewers is preparing for a quarterfinal playoff game against Arizona State in the Peach Bowl. So long as the Longhorns are playing for a national title, the portal will be open for Ewers who could leave after the Longhorns meet their demise or win a national championship.
Despite the fact the portal closed on Saturday, it remains open for those players in either late bowl games or the playoffs. They have five days after the conclusion of their season to make the decision to transfer.
Per Pete Nakos of ON3, Ewers has been the subject of potential tampering. He has reported an unidentified school has offered as much as $6 million for the signal caller to transfer and not jump to the NFL.
NFL draft analyst Todd McShay said on his podcast that scouts have been telling him Ewers should enter the portal as a graduate transfer and not jump to the NFL.
“I’ve had multiple solicited and unsolicited conversations with folks in the league about Quinn Ewers,” McShay said Monday, via The McShay Show.
“Every single person I’ve talked to in the league, every evaluator part of the NFL Draft process believes Quinn Ewers should grad transfer. Some people want him to return to Texas. That’s not an option. Quinn Ewers ain’t returning to Texas. It is Arch’s time in Austin the second the season ends, whether it ends in a National Championship or it ends in disappointment. When this season is over for Texas, it is Arch’s time in Austin.”
Whether Ewers transfers or goes to the NFL, one thing is certain: Arch Manning is ready to assume control of the Longhorns’ offense.
Manning, who was also the subject of transfer speculation last off season, has made his position known he is not transferring and is happy in Steve Sarkisian’s offense.
In Pro Football Network’s most recent 7-round mock draft, Ewers fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the draft.
“Russell Wilson may have exceeded expectations for the Steelers so far this year, but they’ll inevitably need to find his long-term successor, and Justin Fields may prove too expensive for Pittsburgh to want to retain as a backup.
Selecting Quinn Ewers would give the Steelers a strong-armed passer with ample upside while still being able to use your first-round pick on other needs. The flashes have been there to project Ewers as an NFL starter, even if he might not be ready right away.”
