Who Will Sign Quandre Diggs in Free Agency? Possible Landing Spots Include Jets, Eagles, and Giants

    Published on

Quandre Diggs may be an aging safety, but there will be plenty of teams that could be interested in acquiring the former Seahawk.

Is Quandre Diggs heading to the East Coast after a five-year run with the Seattle Seahawks?

Seattle released the veteran safety in a salary cap move along with teammate Jamal Adams. While Adams has struggled at times in coverage, Diggs has seemed to be the exception to that with another fine season in 2023. Now a free agent, the former late-round steal by the Detroit Lions is looking for a new home.

    With plenty of suitors available.

Quandre Diggs Updated Free Agency Predictions 2024

In 17 starts last season, the Texas product recorded a career-high 95 tackles with an interception and five defended passes to boot. His 55.1 Pro Football Focus grade can certainly be deemed as average and among the worst of the top safeties on the open market, but he’s still a quality defender with plenty of experience.

Other older safeties like Micah Hyde, Justin Simmons, and Eddie Jackson have yet to find long-term deals with franchises, which means their asking price will most assuredly drop in the coming weeks as other teams look for solutions in their secondary.

While there are plenty of suitors for a player like Diggs, not all of them will be able to match his salary requests right now. Let’s go through the list of some of the top names available.

    New York Jets

Gang Green has been busy this offseason rebuilding its offensive line in a way that will protect its Hall-of-Fame quarterback. Now, the skill positions need to be addressed. While wide receiver is a clear need, the team only has Tony Adams and Chuck Clark (recovering from a torn ACL) signed to the roster. In short, they need another veteran addition, and Diggs could be just the player to be brought in.

    Philadelphia Eagles

It’s hard to imagine the Eagles going into the 2024 season with just C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Reed Blankenship, and the eventual return of mid-round player Sydney Brown. Brown is coming off a late-season torn ACL, so it would make sense for the organization to address the safety position with a free-agent signing. Diggs has a strong personal relationship with Philadelphia’s top corner Darius Slay which could also affect this market.

    Detroit Lions

Could a return to Detroit be in the cards for the Texas product who was drafted in the sixth round by the Lions? Diggs grew into a quality player in Detroit. With the Lions as talented and popular as they are now, the time may be right for the organization to bring back a veteran player to help their secondary. The back end was the Achilles heel of the organization in 2023 and could get a boost with this signing.

    New York Giants

Both New York teams should have an interest in the veteran safety. Big Blue lost Xavier McKinney to the Green Bay Packers in free agency. If they want to field a competitive secondary in 2024, bringing in quality starters in the back end will be important. The organization is very high on Jason Pinnock, but finding a starter next to him should be the focus right now.

    Buffalo Bills

Buffalo may have already gotten rid of two aging safeties, but they need help in the secondary, and a cheaper option like Diggs might be the answer.

Diggs won’t be as expensive as the Simmonses of the world, and it should allow him to go to a potential contender without much fuss. The Bills are a team trying to maximize its title chances with Josh Allen at quarterback. Diggs could bring some veteran leadership to their expected young secondary.
