The first wave of the 2024 free agency period is in the rearview mirror, and already there are countless moves to review.
The Atlanta Falcons signed their next starting quarterback in Kirk Cousins, the New York Jets added a new tackle duo with Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses, and the Chicago Bears traded for Keenan Allen while shipping Justin Fields to Pittsburgh.
Those moves just scratch the surface of the turnover that the 2024 NFL free agency period set in motion. And those same moves help set the stage for what should be an equally exciting 2024 NFL Draft in late April.
Free agency provided answers but also generated new questions. What do teams like the Bears, Commanders, Patriots, Vikings, and Broncos do at quarterback now?
Where do the “big three” receivers — Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers, and Rome Odunze — come off the board? And which teams could be receptive to a trade?
On the latest episode of The PFN Scouting Podcast, myself and fellow NFL Draft analyst A.J. Schulte each conducted our own full first-round 2024 NFL Mock Draft, as a way to take a hands-on approach to exploring the new questions that the free agency period has posed.
Both mock drafts had the Vikings trading up for J.J. McCarthy, while the Broncos traded down and landed Bo Nix. However, there was also variance among players like Drake Maye, Brock Bowers, Amarius Mims, and Johnny Newton.
