With money to spend and holes to fill, the Cincinnati Bengals were extremely active during the opening hours of NFL free agency. Having made signings at several key positions, the Bengals took care of some weak spots — but there’s more work to be done.
In this week’s episode of The PFN Bengals Podcast, Jay Morrison and Dallas Robinson discuss Cincinnati’s flurry of additions before considering which positions the Bengals will target next.
PFN Bengals Podcast: Takeaways From the First Week of Free Agency
Bengals general manager Duke Tobin and head coach Zac Taylor targeted specific need areas during the first wave of free agency, hitting gaps on both sides of the ball.
Cincinnati signed former Indianapolis Colts RB Zack Moss, then quickly traded incumbent back Joe Mixon to the Houston Texans. How will Moss and holdover RB Chase Brown fare in 2024, and could the Bengals still add another running back?
TE Mike Gesicki will give Cincinnati a different look than they’ve previously deployed. Is he a Tyler Boyd replacement? Or does Gesicki’s arrival spend the end of Tanner Hudson’s tenure?
On defense, the Bengals grabbed former Houston Texans DT Sheldon Rankins to provide interior pressure. Ex-Baltimore Ravens safety Geno Stone is also on board, while an obvious reunion between Vonn Bell and Cincinnati was forged on Thursday.
What else do the Bengals need to do in free agency? Who are some under-the-radar additions Cincinnati may consider?
