Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman is staying busy as the start of the NFL’s new league year is quickly approaching. Philadelphia officially announced their release of cornerback Avonte Maddox on Thursday as they continue to clear more salary cap space.

While many are assuming that Roseman will address Philadelphia’s disappointing defense early in free agency, they also have needs on offense. The Eagles reportedly share “mutual interest” with star running back Saquon Barkley. All of that and more in today’s Eagles news!
Saquon Barkley to the Eagles? 2 Sides Have “Mutual Interest”
It’s been a long time since Roseman and the Eagles have invested significant money at running back. Although, that might change this offseason as Philadelphia is reportedly interested in signing former New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley.
After signing Rashaad Penny and trading for D’Andre Swift last offseason, it appears the Eagles are ready to make a bigger commitment at running back in 2024. Penny failed to see the field much last season, while Swift will likely look for a bigger opportunity elsewhere in free agency.

Top Free Agent Safeties for Eagles To Consider in 2024 Include Justin Simmons and C.J. Gardner-Johnson
As it currently stands, Philadelphia has just two safeties on their roster with legitimate starting potential. Reed Blankenship showed promise last season, and Sydney Brown is recovering from a torn ACL. After releasing veteran safety Kevin Byard, the Eagles don’t have much else left at safety.
Roseman attempted to cut corners last offseason, as he barely spent any cap space to address the long-time position of need. There are plenty of options available at safety in free agency this offseason. Philadelphia should sign at least one safety on the open market.

Eagles in Contract Discussions With Brandon Graham Ahead of NFL Free Agency
Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham voiced his desire to return to the Eagles for one more season following their playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now, it seems likely that Graham will return to Philadelphia, as they are reportedly discussing a new contract.
Although Graham thought he would be returning for one more season with former Eagles center Jason Kelce, that won’t be the case. While Graham isn’t the same dominant force he once was, he’ll provide a much-needed veteran presence in Philadelphia’s locker room.

Justin Simmons Free Agency Predictions: Eagles, Dolphins, and Rams Among Early Strong Fits
Following the Eagles’ hiring of defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, some believed that Philadelphia would attempt to trade for Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons. Yet, the Broncos released the former All-Pro safety on Thursday, allowing him to potentially reunite with Fangio in the City of Brotherly Love.
Given Philadelphia’s need at safety and Fangio implementing his defensive scheme this offseason, it appears like an obvious fit for both Simmons and the Eagles. At 30 years old, Simmons might not have many more years left in his prime, but Philadelphia would be wise to sign him to a short-term contract this offseason.
