Philadelphia Eagles: 3 Free Agent Targets for Philadelphia’s Final Roster Spot

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has done a terrific job this offseason addressing the glaring holes on the team’s roster. Yet, the current roster sits at 89 total players, which means there’s still one spot up for grabs in Philadelphia. Which free agents could the Eagles target to fill the final spot on their roster?

Free Agents the Philadelphia Eagles Could Target for Final Roster Spot

Dalton Risner Could Fortify Philadelphia’s Offensive Line

Following the departure of former starting right guard Isaac Seumalo in free agency, there is now a concern at that position in Philadelphia. While many assume second-year offensive lineman Cam Jurgens will fill that spot, he doesn’t have any significant experience at guard in either his college or NFL career. Tyler Steen is another potential option, but he played offensive tackle at Alabama.

Therefore, Dalton Risner makes a ton of sense as a potential target for the Eagles. Risner is just 27 years old and started every game he played in for the Denver Broncos over the last four seasons. Although his play has been inconsistent at times, Risner would bring much-needed experience at a position of concern for the Eagles. Given the talent along their offensive line, Risner would likely have a bounce-back season in Philadelphia.

Could John Johnson Finally Land in Philadelphia?

Last offseason, Roseman made a late deal to address Philadelphia’s safety situation. Could we see him do the same once again by signing veteran safety John Johnson this offseason?

In 2021, the last time he was a free agent, Philadelphia reportedly had interest in Johnson. And although the Eagles have made several additions at safety in free agency and the 2023 NFL Draft, they could still use another established veteran.

Despite being released by the Cleveland Browns, Johnson was impressive last season and flourished in pass coverage. Given his experience and coverage ability, he would certainly compete for a starting job in Philadelphia.

Is the Third Team a Charm for Myles Jack?

Linebacker is easily the biggest position of concern for the Eagles at the moment. Both of their starting linebackers from last season, T.J. Edwards and Kyzir White, departed in free agency.

While many expect Nakobe Dean to seamlessly step into a starting role, nothing is guaranteed in the NFL. For that second starting spot, There seems to be a two-player competition between Nicholas Morrow and Christian Elliss as of now.

Clearly, those aren’t the two most inspiring names to see competing for a starting spot on Philadelphia’s defense. Therefore, it could make sense for the Eagles to sign a reclamation project such as Myles Jack.

Roseman has already signed several former top-round draft picks this offseason, and Jack fits that mold. Although he was released by the Steelers, Jack had 104 total tackles in 13 starts last season in Pittsburgh. At just 27 years old, he would provide experience and depth in Philadelphia’s LB room.
