Who is QB1 in the 2024 NFL Draft: USC’s Caleb Williams or North Carolina’s Drake Maye? On the latest episode of the PFN Scouting Podcast, Dalton Miller and Ian Cummings look to answer this question definitively.
PFN Scouting Podcast: Caleb Williams vs. Drake Maye for 2024 NFL Draft QB1
The 2024 NFL Draft has been one of the most scrutinized classes to date, in large part due to the QB crop. J.J. McCarthy has emerged as a young star at Michigan, along with Shedeur Sanders at Colorado, and veterans like Bo Nix, Michael Penix Jr., and Jayden Daniels have torn apart defenses left and right.

All this aside, the two quarterbacks at the top of the 2024 NFL Big Board remain the same. It’s Williams vs. Maye. That’s how it’s been since 2022. That’s how it’s been since the summer, and that’s how it likely will continue to be.
We all know Williams and Maye are the top QB prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft. But which one is the true QB1? There’s no final answer across the consensus, but Dalton Miller and Ian Cummings took to the podcast to provide their takes, along with in-depth analysis.
Statistically, Maye and Williams have both been superb in 2023. Maye has completed 203 of 308 attempts for 2,803 yards, 20 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Williams, meanwhile, has completed 216 of 312 passes for 2,958 yards, 28 touchdowns, and four picks — while adding 10 rushing touchdowns.
But production isn’t the primary issue with NFL projections for quarterbacks. The tape takes precedence over everything else, and on the latest episode of the PFN Scouting Podcast, Miller and Cummings use the entire 45-minute window to go through their tape observations.
