Patriots Injury Report: Good News on Hunter Henry, Bad News on Sidy Sow

The New England Patriots released their first injury report of the 2024 season on Wednesday, and it contains good and bad news on both sides of the ball.

The positives include a starting offensive lineman trending upward, while the negatives include a concerning update on a starting cornerback.

Week1 Patriots Injury Report l Wednesday, Sept. 4

Here’s the full Patriots injury report released after Wednesday’s Patriots practice.

    Did Not Participate

    • G Sidy Sow (ankle)

    Limited Participation

    • CB Jonathan Jones (hamstring)
    • T Vederian Lowe (abdoemn)
    • EDGE Joshua Uche (foot)
    • LB Oshane Ximines (ankle)

    Full Participation

    Takeaways from Patriots Injury Report

    • Sow, the projected starter at left guard, hasn’t practiced since suffering an ankle injury in the preseason finale. And while Lowe, the projected starter at left tackle, is trending upward, he barely participated during the media portion of practice. At this point, it wouldn’t be surprising if both sit out Sunday’s road game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

    • Mike Onwenu continued to work at right tackle, although it’s important to note the Patriots didn’t run any team drills during the media-access portion of practice. Nevertheless, here’s an educated guess at Sunday’s O-line should Lowe and Sow be inactive:

    Left tackle: Chukwuma Okorafor
    Left guard: Nick Leverett
    Center: David Andrews
    Right guard: Layden Robinson
    Right tackle: Mike Onwenu

    • Jones’ limited participation will be worth monitoring. His practice participation fluctuated throughout the summer, and he underwent a minor knee procedure during the offseason. The Patriots can’t afford to lose any key cornerbacks regardless of whether Ja’Marr Chase plans on Sunday.

    • Uche and Ximines have been dealing with their injuries since mid-August. While neither issue appears serious, it’s fair to wonder whether either edge rusher will suit up in the season opener.
    • It’s a great sign that Henry is a full-go, as the Patriots offense will need all the help it can get on Sunday. Ditto for Jennings and Wise, two of New England’s most important players on the front seven.
    • The Patriots will practice again Thursday and Friday before traveling to Cincinnati on Saturday.
