The New England Patriots hosted an introductory press conference for their recent free agent signings, including cornerback Carlton Davis III. The event at Gillette Stadium marked a significant moment in the Patriots’ offseason as they look to revitalize their defense and turn around a rough stretch of losing seasons.
However, Davis’ time at the mic got off to a bumpy start.

Patriots CB Carlton Davis Gets Cold Introduction to Boston Media
New head coach Mike Vrabel introduced Davis to the Boston media during the press conference. As the former Super Bowl champion stepped up to the microphone, he quipped:
“No applause here? Nobody clapping? No? How y’all doing?”
The room fell silent, leaving Davis to soak in a cold New England welcome.
The moment was captured in a video clip shared on X.

While the media in attendance chose silence, social media had plenty to say.
“Dude they’re reporters not cheerleaders why would they applaud you lol,” one fan wrote.

One Patriots fan pointed out Davis hasn’t earned the media’s respect. “Not a great start. What have you done to earn the applause of the Boston media?”

“That’s Boston for you,” a Bills fan responded.

Though Davis has played in more media-friendly markets, he may have anticipated the cold reception from the tough Foxboro crowd and decided to meet it head-on.
After six seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and a one-year stint with the Detroit Lions, Davis signed a three-year contract with the Patriots. Reports on the total value vary slightly, with some sources indicating a $54 million deal and others a $60 million agreement, but the guaranteed amount is consistently reported at $34.5 million.
Davis brings battle-tested experience to the Patriots’ secondary, strengthening a unit already featuring emerging superstar Christian Gonzalez, a third-year second-team All-Pro.
Patriots chairman and CEO Robert Kraft expressed his excitement about the team’s future, emphasizing a commitment to building a team fans can be proud of. Meanwhile, Vrabel was a significant factor in attracting top talent to New England.
What Davis Learned from Tom Brady
Davis also reflected on the lessons he learned from Tom Brady during their time with the Buccaneers, praising Brady’s professionalism and work ethic. If Davis can bring those lessons into the Patriots’ locker room, New England could take a step toward restoring its winning culture.
Former head coach Jerod Mayo was criticized for his casual, undisciplined handling of the clubhouse, and Davis’ presence could help set a stronger tone.
Although Davis’ humor didn’t click with the Boston media, Patriots fans hope his personality fits better in the locker room — and, more importantly, that he helps bring winning football back to New England.
